So, it appears there was definitely something to those recent reports saying Meghan Markle might be returning to television.
According to Us Weekly, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex already have something in the works, signing a major deal with Netflix. Somebody pinch me because I must be dreaming.
Before we (or I) get swept away by thoughts of streaming the royal couple’s latest project, it should be noted that this is not necessarily the type of content fans might’ve expected. For starters, it’s not clear if the former actress or her royal hubby will be acting at all. And no, it’s not related to the The Crown.
Instead, this deal appears to be about much more than one title or cameo appearance alone. Reportedly, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s next step as a team includes founding a production company that will make feature films, documentaries, shows, and children’s programming, to name a few!
In a recent statement about their Netflix deal, the royal couple shared:
Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us. … Netflix’s unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.
As the publication notes, Netflix co-chief executive and chief content officer Ted Sarandos is just as excited for the opportunity, stating:
We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.
Sometimes royal dreams really do come true, I guess. Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken a very public step back from their royal duties, their expanding dreams may take us all somewhere new, including Netflix.
We absolutely cannot wait to hear more about this major Netflix deal!
