Kim Kardashian just landed on the cover of one of the world’s top publishers-Time Magazine. The beauty mogul’s billion-dollar empire, SKIMS, is the reason behind it. The company launched in late 2019, right before the Covid-19 pandemic engulfed the world, and because of this, the fashion retailer succeeded in the online market.

SKIMS made a whopping $500 million (US) in 2022 and earned 80% more than in 2021. Now SKIMS is valued at $3.2 billion, and Kardashian said that her company which she co-founded with Emma Grede, has “exceeded everything that I ever imagined.”

Kim shared her Covergirl self on Instagram, wearing a body-forming black dress adorned with side buckles. The mom of three opted for black pointed-toe booties to finish the look.

“TIME MAGAZINE COVER 2023,” she wrote in the caption in all capital letters.

Time sat down with The Kardashians personality to discuss SKIMS’ lucrative success and what it meant for Kim to be the face of women’s entrepreneurship. After all, this is the daughter of one of the prolific lawyers, Robert Kardashian, who became a household name in the mid-1990s for being part of OJ Simpson’s defense legal team, so in essence, Kim must’ve felt added pressure and honor her late father well to thrive in the business world.

After multiple nearly-failed campaigns with well-known brands, SKIMS became the one with a perfect fit, aside from her “baby” company, DASH, which she co-owned with sisters Kourtney and Khloé. Kim began SKIMS with her vision of shapewear in a wide assortment of skin tones, including hers. The KUWTK alum reflected on how she used to dye her shapewear for any upcoming event.

“It [SKIMS] started off with simply finding shapewear that was a skin tone that would match my color,” Kardashian told the publication. “I used to take my shapewear and dye it with tea bags and coffee in the bathtub.”

Since its launch, SKIMS expanded to include more selections in its catalog such as apparel, sleepwear, swimwear, underwear, shoes, accessories, and the newly launched bridal wear. Sizewise, the company offers XXS to 4XL and an assortment of colors. Although online sales are SKIMS’s primary source of income, pop-ups in LA, Miami, and New York, and having merch inside Nordstroms give shoppers a “hands-on” shopping experience.

While people have been critical of the Kardashian-Jenners and their endless spotlight focus, rest assured that Kim and the rest of her large family are not disappearing anytime soon or in the future. Kim, however, has sometimes felt unequaled in her success and fortune, but she is achieving a balance that works for her.

“I still have, like, impostor syndrome or whatever. But I think that’s part of what keeps me going.”
