An appearance by Kanye West at this year’s Coachella music festival doesn’t seem to be happening, despite early rumors.
For those who don’t know or remember, Kanye West famously cancelled his Saint Pablo tour in November after having a mental breakdown. Ultimately, Kanye wasn’t ready to continue his tour and needed to receiver professional help.
After the release of a new clothing and jewelry line, as well as a few features on songs, Kanye West has been quietly making a return to the media. That return was also rumored to come in the form of an appearance at Coachella this year, but it looks like that won’t happen after all.
In case you don’t believe me, here’s an excerpt from a report by TMZ.com:
"Multiple festival sources are clear … Kanye will not perform at Coachella … period."
It’s kind of saddening to learn that Kanye West won’t be performing at Coachella this year. It would’ve been the perfect time to do it, especially looking at this year’s lineup. Some of the performers that will take on sets at the event are, according to a post by Heavy.com:
"The XX, Travis Scott, Father John Misty, Empire of the Sun, Dillon Francis, Mac Miller, Bon Iver, Future, DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, ScHoolboy Q, Gucci Mane, Two Door Cinema Club, Lorde, Justice, New Order, Dreamcar, Porter Robinson & Madeon, Future Islands, Hans Zimmer, PNL, DJ Khaled, Radiohead, Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar"
Of course, Kanye West would’ve been a nice pairing with Schoolboy Q for a surprise appearance with ‘That Part,’ but an even perfect pairing with Travis Scott. Unfortunately, none of that will happen and Kanye will skip out on the event.
He’s no stranger to the event, either. He made a lot of noise at the event in 2011 when he was a headliner, but also made a surprise appearance last season. Below is a clip of his 2011 performance at Coachella, which features Runaway and Power.
Kanye West would’ve been a nice addition to this event, but with the lineup they have the event won’t suffer. With a lot of good artists and good music being presented, I urge everyone to try and make it to the event this year.
There are two weekend dates for the event. The first one will be from April 14-April 16th, which has already ended.
The second weekend dates will be April 21-23.
