Daily Currant: Fake news article features Kanye West

The Daily Currant recently published a satire article on Kanye West that stated the rapper scored 106 points vs. a wheelchair basketball team.

Several years ago, before fake news hit the political stage, some websites prided themselves on creating fake news and rumors surrounding some of the world’s biggest celebrities. On September 17, 2014, one publication — the Daily Currant — published a fake news story about Kanye West.

The internet now-a-days is jam-packed with fake news and people trying to start rumors that don’t exist. Most people have no problem spotting these stories, but there are still a lot of people that fall victim to believing these ridiculous claims.

This one in-particular is quite funny and obviously not true, yet it still seemed to create a lot of buzz after it was found on social media. We all know once an article gets on social media, two things will happen: Everyone will see it and it’ll never go away.

Here’s an excerpt from that article that was published in 2014:

"A charity basketball game didn’t go exactly as planned yesterday when Kanye West scored 106 points against a team of handicapped children in wheelchairs.The game was a PR move intended to smooth over the controversy that erupted this week between Kanye and the disabled community. At one of his concerts recently West repeatedly asked wheelchaired fans to stand, and refused to apologize for his mistake afterwards.The Basketball Wheelchair Charity for Cancer event pitted disabled middle school children against Kanye and his entourage. Kanye’s team seemed hesitant to play as hard since they were not also in wheelchairs as originally planned."

The article suggests that Kanye West took part in a charity basketball game against a of kids in wheelchairs. It also suggested that Kanye was looking to smooth over the backlash received after asking fans in wheelchairs to stand at one of his concerts.

I think the final sentence in that excerpt is the funniest part of it all. Although ‘originally planned’ to be in wheelchairs, Kanye West and his team played on foot, instead… Against a bunch of kids in wheelchairs — LOL.

Ultimately, the article hit the internet waves and caused a lot of discussion about Kanye and his relationship with the disabled community. Safe to say, the article was fake and there is no beef between the two sides.
