The debate is still raging over whether Kim Kardashian dressed as Aaliyah is cultural appropriation or not.
Kim Kardashian is the queen of Halloween. Every year she dresses up at least once and her costumes are always on point, down to the very last detail.
This year, Kim dressed up three different times and each one was magnificent. However, her portrayal of Alliyah, which was spot on, is earning the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star quite a bit of heat.

It seems that while some have paid attention to just how perfectly detailed Kim Kardashian’s Halloween costume was, others are upset. They have claimed that Kim’s costume is racist and that she should have never tried to dress up as an icon like Aaliyah.
Now keep in mind that the theme of Kim’s costumes this year seemed to be icons since she also dressed as Cher and Madonna. Kim earned a ton of praise for those costumes. However, many think she should have skipped the Aaliyah costume because she was black and Kim is white.

Kim Kardashian dressed up just like Aaliyah from the 2001 music video “Try Again.’ She hit the mark on her costume from her pin straight black hair to wearing the exact same belt as the deceased singer.
Almost immediately after Kim posted pictures of her Halloween costume, Aaliyah started trending on Twitter. It turns out that while some felt that her costume was perfect, others thought it was a perfect insult.
Check out this handful of Twitter reactions to Kim Kardashian dressed as Aaliyah.
Mad @ @KimKardashian bc she dressed as Aaliyah? Why though? That's like telling her she can't have an idol who's a different race than her.

Legend or not Aaliyah is a black woman and you’re not. It’s offensive and you shouldn’t push this limit, but ok... 🙄

Do you think she stepped over a line to dress up as this musical icon or did she do it just right? Notice that Kourtney Kardashian dressed up as Michael Jackson, a black man, and no one said a word.
