Then came the controversy over Kanye West’s comments about slavery. Would they steal the spotlight during Sunday’s finale? Kim Kardashian turned to Twitter to set the stage for an emotional finale even before KUWTK aired.

KUWTK star Kim shared her feelings about working to free Alice Marie Johnson. Johnson received a 21-year prison sentence as a first-time drug offender.

Kardashian viewed the situation as “so unfair.” And when she was able to call Johnson and be the one to tell her that she was free to leave prison, Kim was so moved that she still cries when she sees the clip, she told her Twitter followers just before the KUWTK finale was broadcast.

The show also showed the actual footage of Kim’s moving call.

Although watching the KUWTK clip now makes her cry, Kardashian was fierce and on point when she talked with President Trump. When Trump seemed to try to change the subject from Alice Johnson to Kim’s husband Kanye West, Kim switched the topic back.

Recalling the conversation later, Kardashian seemed amused when she described Trump’s tactics. But Kim was triumphant in realizing that she had won Johnson’s freedom.

Us Weekly pointed out that Kardashian first revealed her plan to help Johnson with her sister Kourtney Kardashian.

“My first phone call was to Ivanka [Trump],” revealed Kim. “She connected me with her husband Jared [Kushner].”

Kardashian was candid with Kushner about her views, because Kim attended Hillary Clinton fundraisers. Despite that difference, Kardashian vowed that she would “talk to who I need to talk to to get things done.”

There were mixed reports on whether KUWTK would show Kanye West’s TMZ Live appearance, complete with his remarks about slavery that included saying, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years … for 400 years? That sounds like a choice.”

But Keeping Up With The Kardashians producers kept the controversy in the show, with Kim shown juggling her feelings about West’s remarks with her visit to the White House on behalf of Johnson.

The reality TV show also showed Kim visiting the White House with attorney Shawn Holley. The latter talked about meeting with Trump, revealing that the chatter ranged from Khloe Kardashian on Celebrity Apprentice to Kanye.

“[Trump said,] ‘Oh, I love Kanye,’” recalled Kardashian. “Jared had said Kanye speaking out and reaching out had been very positive for this.”
