According to Google, keto diet ranks as the number one 2019 health search trend. Kourtney and Kim Kardashian both have touted the keto diet for weight loss.

To follow the keto diet, Kim and Kourtney slashed their carbohydrates. Instead, they ate high amounts of food containing fat as well as moderate amounts of protein.

This approach puts the body into ketosis, which means burning fat rather than carbohydrates for energy. Farewell to foods with sugar such as ice cream and products with flour such as cereal.

Kourtney used the keto diet to maintain her 98-pound bikini body. She called it a “really positive experience.”

Kardashian named broccoli rice or cauliflower rice topped with chicken or fish. She also enjoyed avocados and salads with homemade dressing.

Dr. Oz touts Kim Kardashian keto diet for weight loss

TV physician Dr. Oz recently devoted an episode of his popular TV show to talking about the food plan.

The keto diet calls for emphasizing foods that are high in fat, low in carbohydrates. Among those foods on the approved list: “Red meat, bacon, ham, sausage, salmon, trout, tuna, mackerel, omega-3 whole eggs, butter, unprocessed cheese, nuts and seeds, extra-virgin olive oil, avocados, green veggies, and various herbs and spices,” according to Dr. Oz.

And there’s a list that’s just important: What to avoid. The banned food list for keto dieters includes foods high in sugar including cake and cookies, foods high in flour such as pasta and cereal, bread, legumes, starchy vegetables, alcohol, and beans.

Variations on the keto diet range from a 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein, and 5 percent carbohydrates food plan to a 60 percent fat, 35 percent protein, and 5 percent carbs plan.
