Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line, SKIMS, has become a massive success, however, it appears that there was another name set in stone that had to be changed last minute.

In this past week’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian revealed that her shapewear line was meant to be called a different name.

The star gave us a glimpse into the process of creating the shapewear line, and the last-minute alteration to the collections name.

Kim revealed that her collection was meant to be called ‘KIMONO’, but was changed last-minute due to accusations of “cultural appropriation”.

In the episode, we see Kim receive an email from the mayor of Kyoto, Japan, claiming that the name symbolizes cultural values and practices within Japan, and may not be the most appropriate use for her collection.

Kim understood the claims and wanted to take the matter seriously as to avoid insulting or offending anyone!

Kim urgently phoned her marketing team and strategized new methods to create a brand new name. The KUWTK star held a meeting where she pitched the new name, SKIMS, and received an immense amount of positive feedback.

Although the name change was not part of the plan, it appears to have all worked out, but not with ease! Kim revealed to Scott Disick that this was a major set back, and although it didn’t go poorly, it could have cost the star up to $10 million to re-do the entire collection.

Luckily for Kim, the name change was not a bust and she managed to pull it off effortlessly! Funnily enough, in the video clip above, which was posted to Kim’s Instagram, there is a blurred out KIMONO sign in the back screen, meaning these were filmed prior to the name SKIMS being chosen.

We commend Kim for moving quickly and getting things sorted, showcasing the true businesswoman that she is!
