Netflix’s newest documentary series CHEER is taking the world by storm, and for all the right reasons! The show is outstanding, and we’re talking all about it today.

Whether you are a fan of cheerleading or not, you will find yourself mesmerized with Netflix’s newest docu-series CHEER.

The documentary follows the Navarro College cheer team on their journey to the National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.

While this might sound very Bring It On, it’s so much better! Not only have they won 13 championships in the past, but they are the best collegiate cheer team in all of the United States.

Navarro is located in a Corsicana, Texas, about 50 miles outside of Dallas, and while the town might be small, it is booming with cheer! See what we did there?

The Navarro Cheer team is made up of over 40 members, however, only 20 can “make it on the mat”, when it comes to the competition, so things can get heated!

The cheer team has been practicing all year round, however, Netflix began rolling their cameras only 2 months until the championship day.

Coach Monica is truly the star of the show! While she might not be tumbling, stunting or doing baskets, she is an icon. The matriarch of the team is hands down one of the toughest coaches you’ll find int he country, but she will “fight tooth and nail for her kids”.

We instantly fell in love with her throughout the series, and adore how she manages to balance being both the coach and mother of the team.

In addition to coach Monica, the team is made up of so many characters that we are obsessed with. For starters, can we talk about Jerry? Jerry is the master of mat talk, and behold, one heck of a stunter.

Despite the beliefs surrounding the sport being all poms poms and colourful skirts, it is so much more than that. Why this hasn’t become an Olympic sport yet is beyond us!

The level of skill, talent, strength, stamina and patience required to master the sport of cheer is baffling and takes watching this documentary in its entirety to understand the lengths the Navarro Cheer team goes to be the best.

One of our favs is none other than La’Darius Marshall, who can pretty much do it all from flips, jumps, stunts to reciting Bad Girls Club lines like it is nobody’s business. While we love his moves, it’s his story that really got us going.

Many members of the Navarro Cheer team come from all walks of life with a story to be told, which really gave a lot of depth and substance to the show, including Lexi Brumback’s story, which had us captivated throughout.

While it was difficult to cover every single person on the team and their story, Netflix did a stellar job at selecting a handful of athletes and allowed them to truly shine through all six episodes.

We won’t give away if the team won at Daytona Beach or not, but let’s just say it was worth watching every single second! Kudos to Netflix for crushing it on this one, and big ups to the entire Navarro Cheer team and everyone who made CHEER such a phenomenon. #FIOFMU
