The Friends cast will soon reunite for a reunion special on HBO Max and it seems we have Courteney Cox to thank for the upcoming Friends reunion!
For years, fans of the Emmy-winning comedy have longed for the chance to see the Friends cast back together on-screen. While it seemed like the odds were stacked against the show and a reunion would turn out to be nothing more than a pipe dream, that all changed when HBO Max managed to pull off the unthinkable: a reunion featuring all six of the original Friends cast members.
While the HBO Max brass, of course, played a key role in leading the charge and making a reunion happen it seems it was Courteney Cox who played a crucial role in getting the band back together!
Courteney Cox’s Friends dinner party helped lead to Friends reunion at HBO Max
As revealed in a new long-form feature from Variety which takes a look inside HBO Max, the entertainment brand revealed Courteney Cox played a key role in sparking conversations between her co-stars.
One October evening in 2019, Courteney brought together her Friends costars Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer for an unforgettable gathering — that later broke the internet as Jennifer Aniston shared a group shot from the night as her first official Instagram post.
It turns out what many, ourselves included, originally took as a dinner of sorts with old friends, the gathering was the catalyst for making the Friends reunion a reality!
As revealed by Variety, before getting together with her former costars, Courteney met with WarnerMedia execs who revealed the plan for all ten seasons to move to HBO Max and the desire to reunite the cast as a celebration of the iconic series.
Whatever the execs had to say must have resonated with Courteney and the rest of the cast, as it wasn’t long after the cast signed on to return for a reunion special.
Although we won’t get the chance to see the special at launch — due to production delays — we can look forward to seeing the cast reunite soon and we all have Monica to thank!
