Though the rumors have been swirling for months now, it was reported on Friday that Kim Kardashian had officially filed for divorce from Kanye West. As upsetting as the news might be, we can’t say it’s shocking. The famous duo’s relationship has been strained for a while now, and if anything it’s surprising that they even made it this far, unfortunately.

TMZ was one of the first news outlets to break the news about Kim filing, confirming that the two are civil and moving forward on good terms. As was reported a few months back, celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser was hired for the job. Kim Kardashian has yet to confirm the news yet, but knowing her, we’re sure she’ll have a statement posted on Instagram about the divorce sooner or later.

Kim and Kanye got married in a gorgeous Italy wedding back in 2014, about two years after their relationship went public. Since turning their friendship from platonic to romantic, they welcomed four children–seven-year-old North, five-year-old Saint, three-year-old Chicago, and one-year-old Psalm. So now that the two are divorcing, who will get custody of their children? Will Kim go for full custody, or will she ask for joint?

Is Kim Kardashian seeking full custody of her kids?

According to TMZ, the SKIMS mogul is agreeing to joint custody with Kanye, and both parties are “committed to co-parenting together.” That’s a relief. The site states that the divorce is “amicable,” and we hope no drama comes up moving forward. Co-parenting certainly can’t be easy, but seeing as Kim’s sisters Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner all do it, I’m sure Kim will have a great support system to lean on.

Why did Kim and Kanye divorce?

Throughout all the ups and downs, Kim and Kanye seemed in it for the long haul. That is, until last year. After Kanye announced his run for president in 2020 and told a crowd during a political rally that Kim had considered abortion with their eldest daughter, tensions had to have been high between the couple. From there, things only escalated, with Kanye taking to Twitter to go off on not only Kris Jenner, but also on Kim. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star ultimately defended her husband and asked for “compassion and empathy” in their difficult time. However, it seems all of these moments built up until Kim could no longer stand to be married to Kanye. And we don’t blame her!
