When the 20th season of E!’s smash-hit reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians (KUWTK), was announced to be the final season of the show, fans of the family were gutted to witness the end of such an amazing series. From the hilarious moments to the candid, emotional experiences that the family goes through, Kim Kardashian was extremely emotional as she reflected on the last day of filming KUWTK.
In an exclusive interview with Good Morning Vogue, Kim Kardashian opened up about how hard it was to end a “genuinely fun” experience for her and her family because they never imagined making it to 20 seasons.
Was the decision to end KUWTK up to Kim Kardashian?
While socialite Kim Kardashian was one of the first members of her family to announce the news that their show would be ending, it doesn’t look like it was entirely her decision at all. She stated in the interview, “We made the decision kind of last minute and kind of quickly. We all decided together. We were kind of unanimous,” but also went on to state the decision definitely did not come without any doubts as to whether the family made the right decision to end the show.
As the trailers and previews of the KUWTK final season depict, one of the hardest parts about the family deciding to end the show had to do with leaving behind the crew that had been with the family since its first season. Kim stated:
"I think my most emotional time was when we told our crew that we weren’t going to go forward after season 20. That was, to me, the most emotional week. I was so drained for literally an entire week after that."
Kim Kardashian reflected on the moment when one of the members of the KUWTK crew handed her the mic she used in the first 10 seasons of the show, stating that she views “the crew as family to us” and that it’s hard to imagine “not seeing these people everyday.”
Even Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, broke down in tears as she reflected on the idea of leaving the crew in a sneak peek posted on the family’s YouTube page. “These are my family. day one, season one.”, Jenner says in the video. “Every single thing we’ve done, we’ve done together.”
Though emotional, Kim Kardashian stated that she and her family knew that it was ultimately the “right decision” to end the show, truly marking the end of a Kardashian era.
