Does Kanye West diss Kim Kardashian on new album Donda? Rumors explained
By Diana Nosa
American rapper Kanye West is finally doing what he does best–making music. With his new album Donda on the way, fans are more than excited to finally receive some new music from the Grammy-Award-winning musician. And with an album name like that, Kanye fans are also excited to know that this new project may be more vulnerable than any of his previous works.
Vulnerability is something that Kanye West is no stranger to as he has been known to air all his emotions out on his tracks, which is why many are wondering if the rapper will open up about his recent divorce from Kim Kardashian–and if so, if the mention of his ex-wife will be kind or full of resentment?
What does Kanye West say about Kim Kardashian on Donda?
Rumors have been circulating this week that Kanye disses Kim on his new album, with a source telling The Sun that the rapper compares his previous home life with his estranged wife to prison. The publication reports that one new lyric says, “Tell the assassins I escaped from Calabasas.”
However, other publications are stating that while Kim is a topic of conversation on Donda, it’s not as bad as it seems.
Hip Hop DX tells us that Kanye does, in fact, speak about Kim Kardashian on his new album, but notes that he does not mention her in a negative light. Most notably, it is said that Kanye actually played the song in question for Kim, who seemed to have appreciated how open he was about his divorce. This proves to us that there is no bad blood between these two.
“It’s emotional and personal,” an insider told Page Six about Kanye’s album. “Not negative at all.” This is a statement that puts an end to the rumors that believed the 44-year-old musician was resentful towards the KKW Beauty founder and the rest of her family. Needless to say, these rumors don’t come unexpectedly as Kanye has voiced his disdain towards the Kardashian-Jenner family before.
During his series of enraged tweets last year, Kanye called out most of the Kardashian-Jenner family, insinuating that their lifestyles simply don’t mesh well with his. Kim was amongst those who faced the brunt of Kanye’s words as the rapper revealed that she was trying to lock him up and keep him away from his children. The energy of these tweets is what many believed would be the same energy Kanye carried in his newest album, but, as we’ve heard, that won’t be the case.
After all, Kanye and Kim are on speaking terms and she is still the only person Kanye West follows on his Instagram, which lets us know that these two are still trying to be friends with one another. We’ll have to wait until Donda releases to know if this friendship holds up, but for now, we’ll trust that the album will be a vulnerable but impartial one.
