Kim Kardashian to keep ‘West’ amid ex Kanye West’s name change

After Kim Kardashian stepped out in a Balenciaga wedding dress on Thursday and seemingly exchanged vows with her ex-husband Kanye West, during his latest baffling Donda listening party performance, we’re not too surprised to learn the latest news that the 40-year-old SKIMS founder has decided to keep her marital name “West” despite filing for divorce from the 44-year-old rapper in February 2021.

According to reports, Kim Kardashian – who according to the Flashing Lights rapper is “still in love with him”– has no plans to change her last name now, or in the future. A source recently told E! News that the mom-of-four will be keeping “West” as part of her last name for a very simple reason.  The source told the publication:

"“Because ‘West’ is the kids’ last name, she plans to keep it too. It makes it easier and not confusing for them. They are always going to be a family and family unit. She feels like it’s in the kids’ best interest to all have the same last name.”"

Of course, the name “West” probably won’t have the same painful connotations for the KUWTK beauty, considering the duo is allegedly on very “friendly” terms, having recently been spotted grabbing lunch together in Malibu, California.A source shared their thoughts with E! News, on Kim and Kanye’s growing friendship, telling the celebrity news publication:

"“Kim has been supporting Kanye and they are getting along. Things are a lot less tense than they have been in a while. They have found a good groove and peaceful way to be in each other’s lives.”"

We’re also sure that the news that she and Kanye won’t even be sharing the same last name moving forward helps a bit too! – news broke on Tuesday that her ex filed to officially change his name from Kanye West to just “Ye”.

Kanye West officially changed name to ‘Ye’

Almost three years after the music star, fashion designer and presidential hopeful tweeted about changing his name – after releasing an album titled Ye – the 44-year-old rapper has gone and officially done it! On Tuesday, news broke that Kim’s ex had filed to officially change his name from Kanye West to just “Ye”.

According to court documents filed in Los Angeles, Kanye’s decision to change his name to “Ye”, was for “personal reasons”.

At the time of his Tweet, he referred to “the being” formally and formerly known as Kanye West, before announcing: “I am YE.”
