Debra Messing shades Kim Kardashian over Saturday Night Live hosting gig
When it was officially announced that Kim Kardashian would be hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live this October, fans of the reality star rejoiced at the exciting opportunity for her to show her humorous side.
Kim has tried her hand at acting a few times in the past, for example with minor roles in Disaster Movie (2008), CSI: NY (2009) and even an episode of 30 Rock in 2012. However, this new hosting job will really put Kim to the test as she acts in comedy sketches in front of a live audience. We cannot wait to see how she does and we’re sure it’ll be a great show, also considering the fact that the musical guest that night is Halsey!
But as Kim’s fans plan their watch party for Saturday, Oct. 9, others are feeling shady and publicly questioning why the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum was chosen for the job. One person in particular, actress Debra Messing, is basically taking a jab at Kim and we’ve got the scoop right down below.
As reported by People, when Variety tweeted out the lineup of upcoming SNL hosts, including Kim, Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson, and Rami Malek, the Will & Grace alum took to her Twitter to quote-tweet the article and write:
"“Why Kim Kardashian? I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch. Am I missing something?”"

Though the actress does refer to Kim as a “cultural icon,” she questions why NBC would pick Kim, especially considering hosts are usually on SNL to promote something. Well, as fans of the reality star know, the Kardashian-Jenner family is set to premiere their new Hulu show, so that could be a reason. Or, there could be a new project in the works that we don’t even know about yet!
It’s hard to tell over writing what tone Debra Messing meant with her tweet, but she took the time to publicly question Kim, which is shady itself. Kim has yet to respond, but we’ll be sure to let you know if and when she does.
At this time, we’re really not certain what, if anything, Kim will be promoting around the time she hosts Saturday Night Live, but we really shouldn’t knock her until we see what she’s got! We’re not expecting her to be a seasoned comedian, but we’ll at least get a fun and entertaining show.
Don’t miss Kim Kardashian host Saturday Night Live on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 11:30 p.m. EST.
