Kim Kardashian thanks Kanye West during acceptance speech at 2021 People’s Choice Awards

We may finally understand just where Kim Kardashian and her soon-to-be ex-husband stand after months of wondering whether they were just friends or two exes who were bound to get back together in the future.

Recently, it’s become apparent that the two are likely just friends who genuinely appreciate and root for one another in their own ways, and this can be especially seen in Kim Kardashian shouting out the musician while giving her speech at this week’s 2021 People’s Choice Award.

People Magazine reports that the reality star was gifted the Fashion Icon Award, a feat that was previously given to fashion icons such as Gwen Stefani and Traci Ellis Ross.

In being in the same ranks as these great individuals, Kardashian was extremely honored to win such an award and couldn’t help but express her gratitude to Kanye West, the man who opened the doors to the world of fashion for the recipient. Accepting the award, Kardashian stated:

"To Kanye. [Thank you] for really introducing me to the fashion world. I fell in love with fashion and I’m so inspired by so many people but again, this is like a dream that I get to wake up and wear these amazing clothes and try new things and take a risk. I’m so humbled."

Throughout the year, we know that Kardashian has made plenty of iconic fashion statements. From donning all black from head-to-toe at the 2021 Met Gala to sporting all-pink as she hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time months ago, she crushed it just this year alone. And who could forget her sporting her all-leather outfit from her highly successful SKIMS x Fendi collaboration?

All of this and more is thanks to her good friend Kanye West who helped her find her creative eye.
