Kanye West calls Kim Kardashian his ‘wife’ in troubling speech at the BET Awards

Kanye West attended the 2022 BET Awards to speak on the life of his fellow musician friend, P. Diddy. There, US Weekly reports that West spoke a great deal about how we can celebrate the lives of those who bless us with their artistic talents every day. Keeping to the word he preached at the awards ceremony, he also went on to speak about how much he respects Diddy.

“Back then there was so many rules to hip-hop and he broke all of them,” West stated. “[P. Diddy] understood contracts in a way a lot of us still don’t. Understood money in a way a lot of us still don’t. I go to him for advice to this day.”

Continuing, West expressed that Diddy was the source of a lot of his inspiration, particularly, when it came to his life choices and his “wife choices.” See West’s full BET Awards speech below.

West later added the troubling statement: “You know, I took a little hiatus. I said. ‘I wanted to declare myself legally dead for a year. Nobody missing me.'”

The “wife” comment sparked curiosity, as many wondered whether this was just another one of Kanye West’s shenanigans or if he and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, have let bygones be bygones. So, what’s the truth?

Have Kanye West and Kim Kardashian reconciled?

To our knowledge, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are still separated. Kardashian is still in a committed relationship with Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson, and the two show no signs of tension or difficulty getting along. With this in mind, it will be quite interesting to learn how Davidson and Kardashian feel about West still claiming the celebrity as his wife.

While West’s BET Awards 2022 speech comes at a time when Kardashian no longer includes West’s name in neither her legal last name nor her business endeavors, this comment isn’t entirely unexpected. West did refer to Kardashian as his wife multiple times in the past post-divorce filing. One instance, in particular, is when he visited Drink Champs and discussed how he doesn’t necessarily believe he and Kardashian are getting a divorce. Another instance includes the many times he took to his Instagram and referred to her as such in his many now-deleted posts. In both instances, however, Kardashian made it a point not to give in to his tactics. She may do the same again.
