Fans are upset at Kourtney Kardashian for collaborating with clothing company Boohoo in an effort to combat “fast fashion,” but the Poosh founder wants everyone to realize that she’s doing more good than harm.

Fast fashion refers to the speed at which many clothing brands make (and dispose of) their clothes to satisfy the demands of millions of customers. Producing this much clothing at such a high pace isn’t sustainable for the environment, as it not only uses tons of valuable resources but also becomes exceedingly wasteful when the articles of clothing are no longer in style.

Kardashian became the new sustainability ambassador for Boohoo to, at the very least, influence fashion brands to swap disposable fashion for items that could be biodegradable and/or less harmful to the Earth.

Despite this effort, people are mad at Kardashian mostly because, in many ways, she’s very wasteful.

“They [Kardashians] used over 200,000 gallons of water when an average household uses 72,” one fan expressed on Reddit. “You can’t get to the level of rich they are without having f**ked up morals. I really wish we can move away from the narrative that celebrities, and rich people are good, because none of them are.”

After seeing comments such as the one above, Kourtney Kardashian took to her Instagram to address the current concerns and opinions of the public.

Kourtney Kardashian speaks out on Boohoo collaboration

People Magazine reports that Kourtney Kardashian wrote a lengthy message to her 195 million followers to inform them that she hears and understands their point of view. She stated:

"Boohoo approached me to be a sustainability ambassador, and though I knew it would get backlash because the two just don’t go hand in hand, I thought about the fact that fast fashion, or the fashion industry in general, isn’t going anywhere. […] It’s definitely making some noise which is exactly what I was hoping for. I certainly don’t have all the answers, but for someone who has done a fast fashion line collaboration in the past, which didn’t get backlash because I was not calling attention to trying to make better changes, I feel proud about doing it with intention and purpose."

Kardashian also went on to allude to the fact that she’s open to all sorts of criticism, for in listening to the concerns of the people, she can find new and creative ways to become the best sustainability ambassador that she can be. She continued:

"I invite any experts who have ideas, suggestions ( I have already seen some of you and will absolutely be reaching out to talk and learn more) to reach out. I want to help and from my experience so far working with the team I work with at Boohoo, they do too. I will be elaborating on their changes, how we’ve made this line more sustainable, and what I’ve learned we as consumers can do to help… all to come!!"

Only time will tell if Kourtney Kardashian will keep her word to make Boohoo more considerate and conscious of our environment. However, in the eyes of her fans, she must first be an example of what sustainability looks like by reducing her overconsumption of resources. Thankfully, she’s willing to learn.
