Kim Kardashian opens up about Paris robbery on The Kardashians

Kim Kardashian reveals her emotional trauma years after being a victim of the infamous Paris robbery in October 2016 in this week’s The Kardashians. The SKIMS founder was in Milan, Italy, presenting her Dolce and Gabanna fashion show when designers Domenico (Dolce) and Stefano (Gabanna) gifted her with a cross necklace. The gift was a token of their appreciation for Kim’s hard work for the Spring/Summer 2023 show.
By the way, the crystals in the necklace are NOT Swarovski, but diamonds.
“This is beautiful, you guys!” Kim said of the necklace before she started the show. The black-and-white encrusted pendant complimented the black crystal spaghetti-strap dress the socialite wore for the event. And yes, the dress is a vintage 1990s piece from the D&G label.
“This is like the nicest piece of jewelry I own. Because I lost it all,” she continued.
While Kim was ecstatic by their kind gesture, the cross unlocked a memory of what she endured during that dark period. While tied up in the bathroom, the Hulu personality feared that she could be assaulted or even killed. She even thought of her young children and wondered if they’ll grow up without a mother. But, the robbers let her go and took an estimated $10 million in jewelry, including her engagement ring from her ex-husband Kanye West. Since then, the KUWTK alum has been very minimal when wearing jewelry. In fact, until now, she hasn’t worn any, except for events.
“After I was robbed in Paris, I haven’t bought jewelry. I haven‘t really been about wearing jewelry because when it was taken from me. Kim said in the June 22nd episode’s confessional. It was such a… I didn‘t know I was ready for that experience and what that meant, but I was. I was ready to, like, give it up.
The cross holds significance to the mother of four, as a cross necklace was her first purchase when she made her first paycheck.
“The first thing I ever bought when I got a [pay]check was a cross-diamond necklace.”
The robbery has been documented on a Keeping Up With Kardashians episode, and sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian broke down when they heard the news.
As for the robbers who terrorized Kim and her family? Twelve men connected to the crime, including the five men who robbed, have been indicted for a series of felonies, including kidnapping and confinement.
When she spoke with Alec Baldwin on his show in 2018, Kim shared an important lesson from her ordeal.
“Even though it was horrific, and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone, it [really] did deeply change me to where now I feel like I can get back to myself.”
