Britney Spears and her husband of just fourteen months, Sam Asghari, called it quits. The news was first reported by the outlet TMZ, followed by others on August 16th.

The Princess of Pop met the younger dancer in 2016 on her Slumber Party” music video set, and the two became a couple. Asghari proposed to Britney in 2021, creating their lives as one, and they were married at her Thousand Oaks home in June 2022. He was there to support her during her thirteen-year conservatorship, which ended in October 2021.

Britney was living the life she always wanted because the conservatorship ordered in 2008 placed lots of mental stress and greatly limited her freedom. When it was lifted, she finally got to do what she wanted, including getting married and having another child.

So what happened?

For the past few months, Britney and Asghari had toxicity in their marriage and claims of infidelity. However, the latter hasn’t been confirmed, and while Britney’s behavior made waves across the news, fans and loved ones of the “Baby, One More Time” singer shared their concerns.

According to the divorce proceedings filed by Asghari and obtained by People, the reasons were “irreconcilable differences.” He’s also requesting spousal support and legal fees covered by Britney, along with reservation rights, amends over property, and other assets. Since there’s a prenup involved, Asghari can’t disclose Britney’s history or even get monetary gains with the exception of gifts, per the agreement.

In other words, he’ll get nothing, unless he contests in court, and the prenup’s terms will be void. There’s talk that Britney will offer her ex-husband a check, so court ruling can be avoided and will put the situation to rest.

Asghari took to Instagram this week, highlighting that he and Britney’s journey has ended.

After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” he wrote in his Thursday’s Stories. “We will hold on to the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.”

He concluded with, “S— happens.”

Britney for her part spoke about the matter on Friday with an Instagram post, saying that she “couldn’t take the pain anymore.

Later this year in October, Britney will release her memoir, The Woman In Me, and is expected to be a New York Times bestseller. She will finally tell her side of the story in her own words.

We wish Britney all the best in her journey forward.
