Kim Kardashian is a mom, a billion-dollar businesswoman, a beauty guru, an actress, and now a singer. Two days before Christmas, she gave a present to her fans and holiday lovers- her pop ballad of the classic1950s Christmas song, "Santa Baby."
The release of Kim's version came a big surprise to everyone, including myself, as it wasn't on my Kardashian Bingo Card. But knowing Kim, she'll try anything and with confidence, even releasing holiday music at the last minute. Whether it's skillful marketing or Kim was deep in the spirit, "Santa Baby" grabbed everyone's attention. It wasn't the track though (first performed by Eartha Kitt, then Madonna, and Gewn Stefani, plus more), but the video for the song that broke the internet.
The video for "Santa Baby" was a 'strange' embodiment of the holiday season and the song itself.
And again, like Kim's song, the video was unexpected. It's filled with out-of-this-world content, and the reality star channels her inner Marilyn Monroe, complete in a baby blue sweater and blonde locks. At the end, Home Alone's Macaulay Culkin makes a cameo to wrap the video up in a Santa suit.
Kim Kardashian performs "Santa Baby" just in time for Christmas
On December 23rd, Kim premiered her rendition of "Santa Baby." I'm not going to lie; she carries the song well with her slightly airy and sultry vocals, which is the overall feeling of the "Santa Baby."
The track was produced by Travis Barker, with the video directed by Nadia Lee Cohen. Overall, while I like Kim's voice and her ambition, the 4:44 long movie has me confused, due to its nature. Breaking it up, it could be a metaphor of how the chaos of the holidays can dampen our moods, leading to being overwhelmed and nearing a burn out.
Or the "Santa Baby" video could be a reflection of one who consumed too many holiday treats before bed and it was all a dream.
Listen to a piece of Kim's "Santa Baby" below!
The best part of the "Santa Baby" video is Culkin, and since I'm a Home Alone fan, he was the cherry on top of this chaotic cupcake, in a creepy manner that is.
The SKIMS founder was in the studio in 2022 with her family as they recorded Christmas tracks for an unreleased album. The experience was depicted during season 3 of The Kardashians and everyone, including Corey Gamble, had a great time with it.
Kim was shown singing "Santa Baby" into the microphone, but it hasn't been confirmed whether the newly released track was from her recording session.
Moreover, "Santa Baby" is Kim's second song to date. In 2011, she released the ambient beat club single "Jam (Turn It Up)." While Kim wasn't a fan of her performance, she donated the song's proceeds to a cancer charity and had fun making the video when she mentioned it to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.
We'll be adding both tracks to our holiday playlists because you can never have enough music.
