Only three weeks after she visited the Menéndez brothers in prison following the backlash of Ryan Murphy's Monsters premiere. Kim Kardashian voiced her opinion on whether life without the possibility of parole is fair, given Erik and Lyle's current circumstances and the reasoning behind the brothers' crimes.

Kim has been proactively advocating for a reduced sentence or a release for Erik and Lyle, as they were so traumatized by their parents's multi-year abuse that they felt the only escape was murder. The events taking place were horrific and brutal; there's no denying that, but is their sentence fair? Kim has written an opinion piece for NBC News, defining her views on why the Menéndez brothers should be paroled or released.

Let it be known that I don't condone murder nor any other heinous crimes against humanity, but for the protection of children and their lives, we must hear their words and experiences. They can sculpt a much better future and an understanding of others going through the same affliction. It's difficult to, considering what the media ejected, which is only the surface of the Menéndez crimes, and conclusively, the public watching the trials developed their verdicts with only a fraction of what was presented, eliminating the abuse factors.

Kim Kardashian writes her op-ed for NBC News on the Menéde brothers

On October 3rd, Kim penned a lengthy piece on the NBC News website regarding the brothers' crimes, their trials, their histories, who they are today, and her thoughts on their punishment. She argues that Erik and Lyle have become role model prisoners and made examples of themselves while assisting their piers.

In one paragraph, Kim highlights the above, with her added request that the Menéndez brothers should be granted freedom.

"I have spent time with Lyle and Erik; they are not monsters. They are kind, intelligent, and honest men. In prison, they both have exemplary disciplinary records. They have earned multiple college degrees, worked as caregivers for elderly incarcerated individuals in hospice, been mentors in college programs, [and] are committed to giving back to others. When I visited the prison three weeks ago, one of the wardens told me he would feel comfortable having them as neighbors. Twenty-four family members, including their parents’ siblings, have released statements fully supporting Lyle and Erik and have respectfully requested that the justice system free them. "

Moreover, on October 4th, Kim prompted her 360+ million Instagram followers with the beginning excerpt of her essay and a black-and-white photo of Erik and Lyle from the 1980s in front of their Beverly Hills home.

Kim's passion for prison reform has brought light to the subject, and she is lending her voice and her resources to help those who need rehabilitation and be freed of their wrongful sentences or receive a lesser one. So far, she has vouched for Alice Johnson's release and participated in the Criminal Justice Roundtable discussion with VP and presidential canidate Kamala Harris.

What do you think of Kim helping the Menéndez brothers and her platform on prison reform? Good idea or not?
