It seems like Kim Kardashian and Gypsy Rose Blanchard have a common interest. In this week's episode of The Kardashians, both women meet for the first time, sharing the passion of prison reform, and helping those who were wrongfully convicted get their prison sentence erased or at the least, reduced. Blanchard served eight and a half years of her ten-year prison sentence for the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, a woman who placed indescribable and suffering abuse on to her daughter. For several years, Gypsy was coerced into believing that she was "sick" and "disabled," by the mind of Dee Dee. I say this as a disabled individual myself, it's an offensive blow.
While I don't fully agree with Gypsy's choice of murder, as there were other options, she had to endure a very toxic environment and have no social life. Dee Dee was diagnosed with Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a type of behavioral disorder that gains sympathy by falsifying medical conditions of their child or make their symptoms worse by carrying out often damaging acts.
In the July 4th episode, Kim shared that Gypsy sparked a conversation with her on social media and Kim was inclined to offer her assistance, Prior to their meeting, Kim thought that Gypsy could be a voice for others.
" reached out to me on social media," Kim revealed during her confessional. "She's expressed wanting to get into prison reform and I think that with what she's learned being in prison herself, I just think there's such an opportunity for her to use her platform in a really important way."
With Kim and Gypsy meeting up, they had a lot to talk about regarding prison reform.
Kim Kardashian travels to New Orleans to meet with Gypsy Rose Blanchard
Kim made the journey to New Orleans, Louisiana in the July 11th episode to meet with Gypsy. During their discussion, the reality star chimed in with her intentions and wanting to help her get into prison reform.
"Honestly, I've been following your case for a long time," Kim opens to Gypsy as they sit in her living room. "I wouldn't want to come in and meet with someone that I feel could really make an impact just for the sensation of the case."
Gypsy was impressed by Kim's perspective, who extended more of her words by saying Gypsy could make a difference in the justice reform platform.
"I recognized that you could make a big difference because you could really articulate what you've been through and how you could get through it."
Gypsy praised Kim then and gave her "massive kudos" and "props" for her guidance, and I hope that it'll not be taken lightly as Gypsy seemed to educate herself while behind bars. What's more, since her release in December, Gypsy had shared her story on the Lifetime Network series, Life After Lockup, detailing her experience while in prison and her new free life. With this new chance, she has the opportunity to use it wisely.
After meeting Gypsy, Kim revealed how she could additionally help her get in to the reform platform. While the SKIMS founder doesn't agree with Gypsy's choice, she belives in second chances and growth.
"When Gypsy posted that she wanted to get into reform work, and wanted to connect, I really wanted to guide her to use her platform to really help people. I know it's a controversial subject when people want to help people that were involved in something so violent. But I do believe people should have second chances in life And I take entire background into consideration. It's really crazy not to."
Following her pending divorce from her husband Ryan Anderson, Gypsy moved on with her ex-fiancé, Ken Urker, whom she corresponded with while in prison. On July 9th, the couple revealed that they're expecting their first child together.
