Kanye West on Time’s 100 Most Influential People List

Rapper Kanye West is the greatest in the game right now, and you know this. But he is being acknowledged as a one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.

The list is broken down by five categories: Titans, Pioneers, Artists, Leaders, and Icons. If you thought West would be either an artists or icon you’d be wrong. If you thought he might fit into the pioneers category for his trail blazing path in the fashion industry, which continues to be less than welcoming to West, you’d also be wrong.

He was named a “Titan,” along side people like Lorne Michaels, Tim Cook, Charles Koch and David Koch.

Kim Kardashian was also named to the Titans list.

Elon Musk wrote up the write up for West on Time’s website, and had a lot of great things to say about the Chicago rapper.

He praised West’s self-belief and tenacity, fighting for his place in music, then fashion and culture in general. While that is common sentiments about West and rather lazy, I think Musk does a good job digging deeper into the layers of West by recalling a specific lyric from his first album.

"“We rappers is role models: we rap, we don’t think.”"

Musk then describes West’s constant thought process and his calculating moves, while not being weary of criticism or judgement.

Musk’s best line: “Kanye’s been playing the long game all along, and we’re only just beginning to see why.”

This is one of the many things Kanye West fans notice all along, and might be best described by his ‘Bound 2’ and analysis of the video.

Watch Kanye West talk about his legacy, and why he doesn’t really care about it too much.
