Kanye West Gives Lecture At School of the Art Institute of Chicago [AUDIO]

We know Kanye West has been in Chicago recently because we saw him at the Bulls game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday (May 10). He even performed his new single “All Day” during a time out in the first quarter.

West also stopped by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and spoke to students for an hour. It could be labeled a lecture but was part Q&A as well. The school is awarding the rapper and famous college dropout an honorary doctorate.

“We are very proud to welcome Kanye West back home on this Mother’s Day weekend, and we are so honored that he’s agreed to allow us to honor him tomorrow,” the speaker said when introducing Kanye West. “We are honored that he’s bringing to us his wide-ranging creative spirit, and his powerful voice that we celebrate here at the School of Art Institute of Chicago.”

The other fascinating part of this talk is how relaxed and comfortable he seems talking to the students. At times in interviews you can see that West has his guard up and is quick to defend himself or be combative, but this is a much more relaxed West.

It is about an hour-long but is definitely worth the listen, maybe when you have time on the treadmill or during a commute. If you’re more of the reading type, you can read an entire transcript of the talk at Complex.
