Kanye West was gracious enough to present his longtime friend Pharrell Williams with the Fashion Icon of the Year trophy at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York on Monday (June 1).

“Pharrell has always been my style idol. And there would be no me, no A$AP [Rocky], without Pharrell,” said ‘Ye before presenting Skateboard P his well-deserved honor.

West even joked about his infamously bad attitude when it comes to fame and described himself as the “Angry Pharrell,” referencing that of Key & Peele’s funny “Obama’s Anger Translator” sketch.

Pharrell, who had his song “Come Get It Bae” playing in the background, appeared on stage and was humbled the prestigious honor. At the podium, the 42-year-old producer talked about his inspirations when it comes to fashion.

“No one has better style than the everyday American people. Why? Because they’re the real thing and they live it every day,” he said. “I can never be as cool as them, but I’m happy to take notes. I’m not a style icon, I’m just inspired. I am other and I am okay with that.”

Prior to event, Pharrell and his wife, Helen Lasichanh, posed for photos with Kanye and his wife, Kim Kardashian, on the red carpet. This was the first night out for Kimye since announcing their pregnancy.

Congratulations to Pharrell Williams on the Fashion Icon award. You truly are a “Style Icon.”
