Kanye West is a huge inspiration to myself and many others, but some people don’t give him the chance. For those people, this should help.
Kanye West is hard to understand, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. I’m lucky to be one of the people that can relate to Yeezy and find similarities with, but I know I don’t make up a very large group.
I was stumbling around on the almighty facebook when I came across a video captioned “This is for you if you need some inspiration today. Courtesy of Kanye West.” It was a video uploaded by MONTREALITY, but a video originally uploaded on YouTube by TN7R. The YouTube video was titled ‘Kanye West – A God Amongst Men.’
Anytime I see anything Kanye West on any of my timelines (however many there are), I have to click. It’s just a habit. I read a lot of stuff everyday on a wide variety of topics, including watching interviews and documentaries on a lot of topics, but Kanye West is one topic I will always drop what I’m doing to partake.
The 7:27 minute video ended up being one of those SUPER SPECIAL facebook posts that you click ‘Save’ for. It’s been in my ‘Saved’ section on facebook for several months now and I have watched the video around 74 times since then.
It might help you to understand him, but I really hope you take something away from it like I did.
Here’s the video, courtesy of TN7R on YouTube:
For those of you that want a deeper look at everything Kanye West said in the video above, I’ve written it out for you — each and every quote:
- “Imma be the number 1 artist in the world, no matter what genre it is. I’m going to be the number 1 arti– not rap artist, not urban artist. The number 1 artist.”
- “Some people will look and say ‘Kanye’s crazy,” sometimes I’m just like, man, I feel like I’m the only one that’s not crazy here. That I’m the only one not limited, that I’m the only one not afraid.”
- “We born artists, we born free, and then we held down by society’s perception of us. We just don’t want to be embarrassed.”
- “I try to make music that touches people because I feel like I am the people, I’m a part of them, I feel like I’m the only one that’s exactly like how the people really are at home, that’s on the other side of the TV.”
- “We the real rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
- “I’m the No. 1 rock star on the planet.”
- “How miserable is your life that you have to focus on negative things, that you just can’t enjoy things. Sometimes you have to sit back and be like, ‘Damn, you know what, I like that song. Damn you know what, that was good.'”
- “I’m on a pursuit of awesomeness. Excellence is the bare minimum.”
- “Nothing in life is promised except death. You have the opportunity to play this game of life, you need to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don’t appreciate that moment until it’s passed.”
- “We’ve got this new thing called class-ism. It’s racism’s cousin. This is what we do to hold people back. This is what we do — and we got this other thing that’s also been working for a long time where you don’t have to be racist anymore. It’s called self-hate. It works on itself, it’s like real estate of racism. Where just like that, where someone comes up and says something like, ‘I am a God,’ everybody says who does he think he is? I just told you who I thought I was, a God. I just told you. That’s who I think I am. Would it have been better if I had a song that said ‘I am a Ni**a?’ Or if I had a song that said ‘I am a Gangsta?’ Or if I had a song that said ‘I am a Pimp?’ All those colors and patinas fit better on a person like me, right?”

- “I wake up in the morning, just thinking about what stereotypes I want to break.”
- “And I’d rather be hated for what I am, than loved for what I’m not.”
- “You live by the sword, you die by the sword. You express yourself, I’m here to express myself.”
- “Everything you see over the past 10 years in music, that’s a piece of me. That’s — I have influenced all of that, that’s a piece of me.”
- “People liking me or me liking myself, I chose the latter. You know, and I think people gonna like me for liking myself, eventually. And people gonna like themselves. This is about motivation, about self-esteem, if other people got the power to dream and see where I got the power to dream, more things are going to happen.”
- “I’m not concerned about people liking me. I’m concerned about people liking themselves more.”
- “I’m 10 years ahead mentally, and I am trapped in today’s time and every now and then I’ll crack you a smile for 2013, but I’m cracking you a frown for 2023.”
- “What happens with your creativity is blocked by what society says you should be. You always overthink yourself.”
- “My music is neither negative or positive. My music is the reality.”
- “You know what calms me down the most? Success.”
- “Go listen to all my music. It’s the code to self-esteem, it’s the code to who you are. If you’re a Kanye West fan, you’re not a fan of me. You’re a fan of yourself. You will believe in yourself. I’m just the espresso, I’m just the shot in the morning to get you going.”
- “I’m doing pretty good as far as geniuses go. Now at the end of the day, what I do, the music I make and the way I dedicate my life, nobody can say s**t.”

- “My mother made me believe in myself. No matter how many people tell me ‘stop believing in yourself! Stop seeing what you can do. Stop affirming what you’re gonna do and then completing that in real life.’ That’s the improper way to do it. I refuse to follow those rules that society has set up and the way that they control people with low self-esteem.”
- “And the only thing real is your family, your loved ones, the time that you have, the only luxury is time and the only thing promised is that you gonna die one day.”
- “Society has kind of like broken us down to not really feel what we feel anymore. And so many people base themselves off of trends or what’s happening on radio or what they heard before and there’s only a few characters — not so much that we are geniuses, but we’re dreamers and we’re just bringing our dreams to life.”
- “The most important hip-hop musician of all time and I’m just getting started.”
- “I would say that that soundtrack that I provided over the past 10 years has been the most important music soundtrack.”
- “Don’t be afraid to be wrong, don’t be too proud to be wrong. You know, you can’t learn anything from a compliment.”
- “I’m going down as a legend whether you like me or not. I am the new Jim Morrison, I am the new Kurt Cobain. He said if they wrote the Bible again that he would be in it. Duh, yeah I would be in it. I feel that I’m one of the more important people in pop culture right now, one of the only people with an opinion.”
- “I always felt like I could do anything. That’s the main thing people are controlled by. They’re slowed down by their perceptions of themselves. If you’re taught you can’t do anything, then you won’t do anything. I was taught I could do everything.”
- “I hurt someone by saying that I love myself? It seems like the world is all based off of people being taught to not think highly of themselves and by not thinking highly of yourself, you can think less of other people. And you’re marginalizing yourself and marginalizing the people around you.”
- “I worked on the video for three months to deliver a product. I’m not just doing it for one week and going off and smoking some weed and going to the club and partying. I’m delivering product on a whole new level, I’m like a machine, I’m a robot, you cannot impend a robot, you know what I’m saying? Mentally I’m so focused, there’s nothing anyone can say or do to me to stop the music, the product that I’m going to put out. At the end of the day, the talent will overcome anything. So I have a right to talk about what I want, I have a right to give my opinion because I back everything up. Y’all thought I was talking s**t when I first came out, now you see I back everything up. Back to back to back to back to back.”
- “I’m the No. 1 artist of the past 10 years. Hands down, no competition, ask any other artist.”
- “The idea that no one else would say it for you to scream it really loud — that’s crazy. For you to have an idea, scream it really loud and be successful at it — that’s genius. Success a lot of times is the greatest disabler of creativity.”
- “Just mark my words, as I am Kanye West, you see me and my execution. Did I not become the biggest rock star on this planet? Did I not influence all musicians? Did I not go and get the exact girl that I wanted? Did I not start my family? Did I not get a chance to work with my idol? Did I not make Louis Vuitton’s, did people not line up at the Yeezy Store? Did I not make The College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808’s, Blueprint 1, Blueprint 3, Watch the Throne, Cool Summer and Yeezus if people like it or not?
- “People need my music. People need Kanye West albums.”
- “I believe in me, just believe in you! Let me do me. You like it, cool. You don’t, fast-forward.”
- “If I see an opportunity I’m gonna go for it. We’re all gonna die one day, so we live like that. Live like you could die tomorrow, you know, go for it.”
- You could say anything, and you’ll lose everything. If you say anything, then you lose everything. If you say anything, then you lose everything.”
