Taylor Swift pulls one over on Kanye West with Folklore album release

Taylor Swift has emerged victorious in the latest round of her ongoing feud with Kanye West thanks to the surprise release of her Folklore album.

On Tuesday, July 21, Kanye West surprised fans in announcing plans to release his tenth studio album in teasing the release of Donda: With Child on Friday, July 24. However, July 24 came and went without any update from Kanye and no new album for fans to enjoy. While it could be that Kanye jumped the gun in announcing the album prematurely, it seems more likely the delay was due to Taylor Swift.

You see, just two days after Kanye announced his plans to drop Donda: With Child, Taylor Swift surprised her own fans in announcing she would be releasing her eighth studio album, Folklore, at midnight on July 24 — the same day Kanye planned to drop his new album.

As Swift promised, Folklore dropped at midnight on July 24, creating a swell of positive buzz among both critics and fans. The album is also quickly on its way to the top of the charts. Meanwhile, it’s been radio silence from Kanye and his camp with no word on Donda or its release.

From the outside looking in, it seems clear Taylor Swift managed to steal Kanye’s thunder with her album’s release and that Donda has been delayed in order to avoid it being drowned out by the overwhelming success of Folklore.

Considering the bad blood between Kanye and Swift — which has been well documented over the years — it’s understandable for Swift to want to swoop in and upstage Kanye. While she’s clearly won the latest round in their ongoing feud, while also adding another hit album to her repertoire, one has to believe the timing might not have been the best.

As evident in his recent Twitter meltdowns, Kanye isn’t in the best of places at the moment and one has to wonder if Swift’s album release date choice was in poor taste — intentional or not.

Do you think Taylor Swift’s decision to release her Folklore album the same day Kanye West originally planned on releasing his tenth studio album was a direct shot across the bow? Considering Kanye’s current mindset, do you think the move by Swift was in poor taste?
