Kim Kardashian might be MIA on social media for a little bit. And here’s why, according to the star herself.

Following Keeping Up With the Kardashians cancellation, a lot continues to change in the Kardashian-Jenner world, especially for the reality show’s original starlet, Kim Kardashian.

As we’re all well aware by now, the future lawyer will be saying goodbye to the show that made her a household name. For a hot minute or two, it appeared she was also possibly walking away from her increasingly complicated marriage to Kanye West.

With some of these what-comes-next details still unclear, a plethora of social media questions were all but inevitable. Per usual. With that said, however, we definitely would not have predicted what the selfie-centric star claims is happening with some of her social media accounts today: She’s freezing them.

According to reports by CNN, Kim Kardashian recently announced she would be joining a different kind of platform, banding together with other high-profile users to protest Facebook for all of its underhanded dealings, hate, violations, and security invasions.

So yes, that means what you likely think it means: Kim will be temporarily deactivating her Instagram, since the platform is owned by Facebook, as well as her Facebook.

As CNN notes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Orlando Bloom, Kerry Washington, and Sacha Baron Cohen have all joined the Facebook protest.

While none of us can say we blame Kim, this news still comes as a shock for many fans and foes alike. After all, it’s no mystery that the TV personality is insanely active and popular on all socials. On Instagram, she’s ranked as one of the most followed accounts globally.

In a social media statement, Kim explained her decision, revealing:

"I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation."

No matter how the protest pans out, freezing her social media channels is certainly a proactive way to try and put a stop Facebook’s wrongdoings by taking matters into her own hands.
