Why the Kardashian family is being accused of cultural appropriation again
It looks like the Kardashian clan are once again in hot water for alleged cultural appropriation. After Kim and Kourtney’s children were filmed performing Māori haka, a traditional war dance from New Zealand, many fans are fuming.
Scott Disick did the honors of sharing the video, uploading the clip of their kids to social media. After the video went live, though, his comments were flooded with angry reactions.
As reported by the Mirror, many felt the video was insensitive. “How about you teach your kids Native American culture before incorrectly teaching them our cultural haka,” one person wrote, according to the site.
The incident even prompted a comment from the Māori Council executive director himself. However, he didn’t seem to be quite so upset. Matthew Tukaki told Star News, “On the one hand, it’s a great thing. On the other hand, I would love to have a conversation with them about what the haka means and what motivated them to do it.”

This isn’t the only cultural appropriation controversy the KarJenners have been wrapped up in this year. Kourtney was slammed for comparing herself to Disney’s Moana (who is of Polynesian descent) in October 2020.
Kourtney made the comment during Kim Kardashian’s 40th birthday trip to Tahiti. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star posted a pic on the beach, writing, “I am Moana of Motunui.” This didn’t sit right with fans, who felt she should’t have compared herself to the character of a different race.
She later updated the caption.
With fans watching their every move, it’s inevitable the KarJenners are always involved in some kind of controversy. But with yet another cultural appropriation claim being made against them, they might want to think twice before their next post.
