Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to look ahead to the future — continuing to use the Obama family as their inspiration as it seems.

After following in the Obamas’ footsteps in inking a content deal with Netflix, Meghan and Harry have now followed the Obamas in embarking into the podcast world with an exclusive new partnership with Spotify!

As reported by Deadline, Meghan and Harry have agreed to an exclusive podcast partnership with the streaming service which will see them produce new audio programming through their Archewell Audio brand. The multi-year deal is said to include a holiday special coming to Spotify later this month before the couple launches their first complete series sometime in 2021.

Given the news has only just broken, the royal family has not yet had the chance to react to Meghan and Harry’s Spotify deal; however, it’s expected the royal family will not be happy with Meghan and Harry’s latest venture.

Since their departure, there has been little Meghan and Harry has done that hasn’t sparked furor among the royal family and royal insiders. From anger over their Netflix deal and the couple’s silence in addressing The Crown‘s portrayal of Charles and Diana to the couple commenting on the 2020 presidential election and decision to launch their own awards rivaling the Queen’s honour’s list, every step of their post-Megxit journey has been met with scrutiny.

Although there is a slim chance the royal family will support the couple’s podcast deal, the harsh reality is that the family has been far from supportive of anything Meghan and Harry have taken on since stepping away and we imagine they’ll also disapprove of the couple’s Spotify deal.

With this new podcast deal, it’s clear Meghan and Harry are continuing to set themselves up for a future that is unlikely to include a return to royal life. In signing a multi-year podcasting deal, the couple seems to have just hammered in what could very well be the final nail in the coffin for their time as royals.

With a showdown with the queen coming in early 2021 to review the terms of the couple’s exit deal, it’s very likely the queen could choose to strip the couple of their royal titles which is perhaps why Meghan and Harry are working so quickly to secure a future outside the palace.
