People are calling Kim Kardashian “tone deaf” for her latest choice of words on social media, reports BuzzFeed.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star is being called out for “flaunting her wealth and privilege” during the COVID-19 pandemic. As noted by BuzzFeed, Kardashian was criticized last year for attending group gatherings rather than socially distancing. After her destination birthday celebration which included 30+ guests, the 40-year-old was slammed for not taking the ongoing crisis as seriously as she should’ve been.

This week, the reality star shared a shot of herself lounging beside a luxurious pool with a scenic backdrop. The caption read, “This is more than life…this is paradise.” Needless to say, those who’d didn’t like what they saw begged to differ in the comments section.

Many responded by reminding Kim Kardashian that “we’re in a pandemic,” and calling it “paradise” is simply not okay for anyone to do, especially not someone with such a gigantic following on Instagram. Kim shared the same shot to Twitter with its controversial caption. With her “paradise” remark on both platforms, accusations of her flaunting her wealth at the wrong time exponentially grew. As of this moment, both posts remain up for the world to see.

Perhaps Kim Kardashian anticipated being slammed for this post and so, the future lawyer was also ready to keep it posted, no matter what anyone said. Maybe she sincerely doesn’t see anything wrong with it. Or maybe, Kim’s just busy. After all, she’s reportedly going through a very public divorce from Kanye West. Not to mention, it seems like something new surfaces regarding what went wrong in their marriage on an almost daily basis. It’s drama, on drama, on drama.

So in her current situation, maybe posts like this are more of an escape for Kim Kardashian, rather than a literal paradise. Still, the general consensus seems to be that no matter the mom-of-four’s motives, it doesn’t make this post any less insensitive right now.

Fans will remember a similar situation back when Kim celebrated her birthday last year. In a lengthy post about turning the big 4-0, she gushed about her getaway birthday bash, swimming with whales, dancing in the sand, and the safety precautions supposedly taken prior to jet-setting off to the private island.

Summing up the entire experience, Kim wrote, “I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is.” However, many found the fact that she was sharing those shots of her notably privileged life amid the pandemic to be distasteful, “out of touch with reality,” and mostly, insensitive to others.

Kim Kardashian has yet to respond to the most recent backlash.
