Fans react after Kylie Jenner defends herself against GoFundMe controversy

Kylie Jenner has made headlines once again after she defended herself against the GoFundMe controversy surrounding herself and makeup stylist Samuel Rauda.
According to Page Six, the makeup artist was in an awful car accident that left him with multiple injuries. Unfortunately, the injuries were almost life-threatening and Rauda had to undergo intense critical surgery on March 14 that left him with a hefty medical bill. This is where Kylie Jenner comes in.
The Kylie Cosmetics mogul came under rapid fire when she posted Rauda’s GoFundMe fundraiser on her Instagram, @kyliejenner, asking fans to show support and seemingly encouraging people to donate money. Sparking immense public outrage, Kylie Jenner took to Instagram to defend herself.
What did Kylie Jenner say about the GoFundMe controversy?
To address the situation, Jenner stated:
"Sam [Rauda] isn’t my makeup artist and unfortunately we don’t have a personal relationship anymore but I have worked with him years ago and think he’s the sweetest. […] After learning more detail about the accident it compelled me to visit his gofundme which was set at 10k. They had already raised 6k so I put in 5k to reach their original goal."
She then went on to say that she posted the fundraiser on her social platform “to gain more awareness” and that she wanted to allow anyone else who sympathized with Rauda’s story to “share or donate.”
Fans of Kylie Jenner were quick to react to her statement, and there are hundreds of comments online both in support and in opposition of the 23-year-old socialite.
What did fans have to say about Kylie Jenner’s statement?
We went to Reddit to see what fans had to say about the controversy and here’s what we got. In opposition of Jenner, one user stated:
"[…] If she was going to ask her fans/followers to contribute, why did she not include a little more info with her post? She could’ve just said, “hey I donated enough to meet their goal but if anyone else wants to help, here’s the link”."
On the other hand, in support of Kylie Jenner, another user stated:
"People really twisted the whole story into hate-bait. It sounds like she hasn’t had contact w this guy in years and if she never shared/donated nobody would even bat an eye."
And another supportive user commented:
"I see both sides of the situation but at the end of the day it’s her money. No matter what amount she donates, it’ll never be enough for some people."
One Redditor even pointed to the fact that the real issue has nothing to do with Jenner or her money, but that the issue really is the American healthcare system:
"Plot twist: the real villian [villain] is the American health care system (with a special guest appearance by systemic regulatory and legal environment which allows multi-millionaires to exist)."
According to this Reddit thread, it seems that most fans seem to be in support of Jenner and believe that she did her best to help the makeup artist in any way she could and that things were blown way out of proportion.
Whether you believe Kylie Jenner was right or wrong, the great news is that Samuel Rauda is currently in full recovery and his initial fundraiser of $10,000 has been met.
