Earlier this year, many suspected Kim Kardashian wouldn’t drop the “West” from her last name for the sake of her four children who share the last name as her estranged husband Kanye West.
This seemed the case because Kardashian had yet to remove her second last name, not even from her Instagram page. However, with the way things are progressing with Kardashian and West’s divorce, it seems that the keeping of her soon-to-be ex-husband’s last name has officially run its course.
E! News reports that Kim will be removing “West” from her last name, and she’s also filed to become legally single.
Why is Kim Kardashian dropping “West'”from her last name?
Though we have yet to learn the specifics as to what pushed her to this point, according to E! News, it’s possible that Kanye West’s public declaration of love at his “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert had something to do with it.
During the concert, West performed his song “Runaway” as per usual, but changed one lyric to state, “I need you to run right back to me. More specifically, Kimberly.”
It’s clear that this altered line fell on deaf ears as Kim Kardashian filed to be considered legally single the next morning.
Being legally single will allow Kim Kardashian to legally return to her maiden name and allow the process of child custody and property allocation to quickly hasten. It will also disallow Kanye West from claiming he’d never seen papers signifying the pending separation, being that both parties must sign the document for Kardashian to proceed forward. And with it being reported months ago that West wants this divorce to be as stress-free as possible, there’s a fair chance he will cooperate accordingly.
Naturally, we’ll have to wait and see if Kanye West will continue to be cordial during this divorce process, and if he is, in the soon coming months, we can expect Kim Kardashian to announce her cosmetics brand’s (currently known as KKW) new name and can also expect for her to drop the “West” in her Instagram name.
