Here’s why Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker didn’t attend the 2022 MTV VMAs

Can you believe it’s nearly been a year since Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker graced the MTV VMAs as a new couple?

In September 2021, Kardashian and Barker almost made the world stop when they smooched on MTV’s red carpet. Fans of the two were over the moon that they chose the VMAs to make one of their first public appearances as a couple, not only because they adore them together, but also because we knew how much Kardashian being there for her musician partner meant.

Although Barker didn’t take home the Best Alternative award for his and Willow Smith’s song “Transparent Soul,” he did, at least, walk away with the love of his life.

Flash forward to almost a year later, even though Barker was nominated with Smith and Avril Lavigne for their song “Grow,” and despite the famed MTV awards show now being a special place the couple share, the 2022 VMAs red carpet was without Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.

Here’s why.

Why Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker skipped the 2022 VMAs

Elle reports that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker opted out of the VMAs this year because the couple has been going through a lot.

In addition to their long-awaited wedding ceremonies and their baby-making plans, Kardashian and Barker have been rather preoccupied getting Barker’s strength back as well as touring all over the world.

Regarding Barker’s strength, the couple had a very scary health scare earlier this year when the musician was rushed to the hospital to treat his sudden bout with pancreatitis. Fortunately, medical professionals were able to help. Even still, it seems he wants to avoid using the limits of his body and mind, and perhaps attending the VMAs would overwhelm him–especially since he caught COVID-19 not too long ago.

“Covid sucks🤬,” Barker wrote in his caption for his snap last week. “I’d rather be playing drums.”

Speaking of playing drums, Barker is also busy with touring around the world with his bestie, Machine Gun Kelly.

MGK’s 2022 tour expands to locations like Prague, London, and Amsterdam, meaning it’s possible Barker and Kardashian also couldn’t make the awards show because of scheduling conflicts and/or to avoid over-exhausting themselves.

What’s more, Kardashian’s most recent Instagram story shouting out Nate’n Als, a California restaurant, puts her and her husband on the West Coast. It’s safe to say the married couple wasn’t anywhere near Newark, New Jersey last night to be able to attend the awards show.

Hopefully, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker will pay a visit to the VMAs next year. Only time will tell.
