A daughter’s love for her father grows as time passes, even if they’re no longer with us on Earth.  The loss of a parent leaves an unfillable void in the heart, but as long as their love and memories remain unforgotten, their spirits will hold an eternal flame.

Kim Kardashian’s loss of her father, lawyer, and businessman Robert Kardashian Sr. hit her hard.  To honor her father, who would’ve turned 79 on February 22nd, Kim posted an Instagram carousel dedicating his birthday.  The Skims founder shared family photos and home videos of her dad and family in the post.   The media is dated back to Kim’s earlier years in the 1980s and 1990s, and the proud father of four is seen smiling and having fun with his kids.

Happy Birthday Dad- it’s almost getting to the point where I’ve had to remember you longer than I’ve known you,”  Kim wrote for her emotional tribute.  “Its been 20 years since we’ve celebrated your birthday here on earth. But I will take it because I had the best dad in the whole wide world and am so lucky I had 22 years with you! There’s so much I wanna tell you and show you and so many little humans I wish you knew because God you would love them so much! I can close my eyes and hear your voice and remember the funniest little things about you that make me so happy. I’ll never ever let that go. I just really miss you and kinda need you right now. Please come to me in a dream soon. I love you so much happy 79th birthday! -Jouge

Kim chose the song “Dance With My Father” by R&B artist Luther Vandross for the videos.  As the videos reel, there are several affectionate highlights.  From swimming days, birthdays, and giving Kim her first car, it’s plain as day Robert loved his family and would’ve loved his grandchildren.

Four months ago, in October, Kim shared some personal mementos from her dad in an Instagram story.  The first one is a handwritten note to her, and the second is a 2002 Father’s Day card he kept.  Along with a photo of the special keepsakes, Kim wrote the following:

19 years ago my daddy passed away. I miss coming home to these notes that I could hardly read w his left handwriting. I love you so much dad, I can always feel you.

Kim’s passion for the law definitely came from Robert SR.  For a few years now, she has been working on the prison reform system, helping innocent prisoners freed from being a death row for uncommitted crimes.  In October 2022, the aspiring lawyer launched her own podcast on Spotify, which gives an inside look at reform and how it impacts victims.

Kim’s mother, Kris, did her own special tribute to honor her late ex-husband and dad to her four eldest children on her Instagram page.

Happy heavenly birthday, Robert,” she captioned the video, which shared sweet times with all four of his children.

Who was Robert Kardashian Sr?

Robert Kardashian SR was a lawyer and businessman of Armenian heritage.  In 1978, he married Kristen Houghton (now known as Kris Jenner). They had four children, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Robert Jr.  While the elder Robert was known to be a central family man, he is also recognized as one of OJ Simpson’s lawyers, along with Robert Shapiro and the late Johnnie Cochran in the mid-1990s.   Although Simpson was acquitted of a double homicide, Kardashian had doubts about his innocence.  In 1996, after the trial’s verdict, Kardashian sat down with the late Barbara Walters to discuss the shadows of the trial and the doubt he carried.   If asked if he would do the trial all over again, Kardashian replied with a hard “no.”

Sadly, Kardashian passed away in 2003 following a short battle with esophageal cancer at the age of 59.  On his grave, read the words:

A man of tender heart and generous spirit.
