It’s not the Met Gala without a Kardashian or a Jenner strolling the Red Carpet on fashion’s biggest night. Kim Kardashian and her two youngest sisters, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, attended the star-studded event on Monday, May 1st, in New York.
This year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and the ladies accomplished that in their fashions.
Kim wore a pearl-encrusted ivory gown by Italian fashion house Schiaparelli with a diamond and pearl choker, ivory cape, and matching opened-toed heels. Her hairstylist Chris Appleton did her glossy black hair in a chic updo. The dress is a callback to Kim’s 2007 Playboy shoot, as the SKIMS founder donned dripping pearls for the layout.
According to People, the gown was constructed with 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls and took 1,000 hours to assemble.
“I wanted pearls. I thought, ‘What is more Karl?’ You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls,” The Kardashians star revealed to Vogue correspondents at the event.
Kim jet-setted to Paris for inspiration and met with Lagerfeld’s Burmese, Choupette.
Before the Selfish author arrived, her daughter North traveled with the KUWTK alum to the Big Apple. The nine-year-old TikToker wore a Chanel soft pink blazer, distressed jeans, and lug-soled black boots and accessorized with a pearl handbag. Although North couldn’t attend the Met Gala due to the event having an age restriction rule (Guests must be over 18 to attend. The practice was first implemented in 2018.), she did ride with her famous mom to the Gala and was reported that she waited in the car.
Kendall Jenner, for her part, wore a black and white sequined Marc Jacobs bodysuit with floor-length sleeves and eight-inch tall platform boots. While Kendall is naturally tall (5’10), the footwear only accentuated her slim frame. The outfit, however, was reminiscent of the Chanel bathing suits of the 1990s.
The 818 Tequila founder reflected on Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy, as he was one of the first significant designers she modeled for back in 2015.
“It’s a little emotional, and I owe a lot to him and what he did for me,” Kendall told Lala Anthony during the Vogue Live via YouTube. “It was such a pivotal point in my career when I started working when I was young and new, and he embraced me. I’m honored to be here and celebrate him.”
Later, Kendall swapped her bodysuit for a silver sequined sheer jumpsuit for the Met Gala after-party hosted by Dua Lupa.
Lastly, Kylie Jenner arrived in a cherry-red Jean-Paul Gaultier ensemble with long sleeves, and a slit. The train also acted like an oversized-sleeved cape and was lined in Choupette’s eye color, a startling cat’s eye blue. She accessorized the gown with matching pointed-toe pumps, Lorraine Schwartz diamond rings, and large diamond stud earrings. Kylie wore her makeup brand, Kylie Cosmetics to complete her look.
The mother of two quoted at the Gala that she was “looking forward to making more memories with my sisters, seeing all the fashions, and having a good time.”
Like Kim, Kylie brought her 5-year-old daughter Stormi Webster to New York, but the little one did not attend the Met.
Following the Met Gala to its afterparty, Kylie changed from her red dress to a strapless black and white one from the same designer.
The entire Kardashian-Jenner family (sans Caitlyn) attended the Met Gala last year, while it has been rumored that “no Kardashians were to be invited” to this year’s ball, the rumor has been finally laid to rest with Kim’s, Kendall’s, and Kylie’s appearances.
