The Fifth Wheel, the upcoming Netflix movie starring and produced by Kim Kardashian, is moving forward after months of silence. It has acquired a director and another producer, bringing it closer to its premiere date.

Kim has starred in features before, with roles in the Paw Patrol franchise and Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor in 2013. The SKIMS founder is no stranger to the camera, and she puts herself in new and substantial challenges, allowing her talents to fully bloom. There's nothing Kim can't do when she puts her mind and soul behind a project.

The director attached to The Fifth Wheel is a TV recipient and runs their own production company, while the recruited producer(s) have ties in the film industry. After scoring the essential elements, Kim and the crew can start on bringing the comedy to life.

The Fifth Wheel gets Eva Langoria to direct and Gloria Sanchez to produce

According to Deadline, Eva Langoria, best known for her saucy role as Gabrielle Solis on the long-running ABC drama Desperate Housewives, has been assigned as The Fifth Wheel's director through her media company, Hyphenate Media Group. Meanwhile, Gloria Sanchez Productions, which is managed by the film talent and comedian Will Ferrell, with veteran Hollywood producers Adam McKay and Jessica Elbaum.

Gloria Sanchez Productions focuses on female-driven projects, and Kim's movie was a natural fit. The company also produced the 2019 comedy, starring Lizzo, and the 2025 Reese Witherspoon comedy, You're Cordially Invited, for Amazon.

Paula Pell and Janine Brito have penned The Fifth Wheel's script, with Kim working alongside its new line of producers. Although the film's narrative hasn't been disclosed, Kim will star as the titular 'fifth wheel' among a largely female cast. But if her role is anything like we have seen before, then she'll add a delicious and slightly illicit dose of drama to it.

Netflix acquired the film's distribution rights back in November 2023, following a bidding war and will be a part of the streamer's catalog. At the time, the WGA and SAG strikes were settling down, so Hollywood was in a recovery stage to recoup the losses.

Kim is set to star in the upcoming Ryan Murphy legal drama All's Fair, which will premiere this fall on Netflix. Its trailer was launched last week, with the reality star becoming a powerful yet sensitive law attorney. Joining Kim will be Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson, who might be as powerful as she is.

The Fifth Wheel will premiere sometime on Netflix, hopefully sooner than later.
