Kim Kardashian channels Marilyn Monroe vibe in Hollywood glam photoshoot
Kim Kardashian is going for yet another Marilyn Monroe look in her latest photoshoot. She took on the challenge of an early 1960s Monroe when the iconic legend's star was still very much bright. While we never had the opportunity to witness Monroe in her prime, we must go by her photos and films, as her legacy is encased in these treasures.
Kim desired to keep Monroe's momentum alive by going for a bombshell aesthetic, complete with platinum blonde locks and a leopard-printed bikini. She additionally wore a gem-infused sheer dress for another segment from the photoshoot. It reminded us of when Kim attended the 2022 Met Gala in the "Happy Birthday" Bob Mackie dress, the same exact one Monroe wore at John F. Kennedy's birthday gala in 1962.
It's been reported that Kim only wore Monroe's dress, which is currently valued at $4 million and on display at Ripley's Believe It Not Museum in Orlando, on the Met's Red Carpet. She later changed into a replica for the inside events so the original wouldn't get ruined.
"What's more American than Marilyn Monroe?" Kim asked during a season 3 episode of The Kardashians in late 2022.
Inside Kim Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe's photoshoot
Kim displayed her infamous curves in a series of black-and-white photos in an Instagram carousel she posted on June 26th. In two of the slides, a vintage camera is revealed, and while we have no clue whether the piece was actually used or just a prop, it's cool to see because it's part of the media landscape history.
Kim wore a mask in the same pattern as the bikini to play up the look, adding a bit of mystique to the vibe. Marilyn valued her privacy when she wasn't working, so the mask could be a symbol reflecting the idea. Or was Kim embracing the cowboy era of the 1950s and '60s? We may never know.
The reality star and SKIMS founder ensured that she tagged her creative team, as they all helped bring the photoshoot from mind to moment and perfect every detail. Kim's "hair husband," Chris Appleton, styled her natural dark locks into a short wavy hairstyle and colored it a cool icy blond. Makeup artist Kali Kennedy was responsible for Kim's Golden Age of Hollywood glam.
What vintage star will Kim play homage to next? We'll have to wait and see!
