Shakira literally said "whatever" to her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué. On March 25th, the Grammy winner appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to spill the tea on her tough breakup with the former soccer player. If you're finding out about this now, we'll fill you in.

For eleven years (2011-2022), Shakira and Piqué were in a highly publicized relationship. From their union, they welcomed two sons, Milan in 2013 and Sasha in 2012. The family resided in Barcelona, Spain until they couple split ways after Shakira discovered Piqué's infidelities. For the singer, it was a difficult hurdle, but one she navigated with finesse and precision.

In her interview with Fallon, Shakira explained how Piqué kept her from pursuing her musical passions and caused her duress. Now that she's "husbandless" (she and Piqué were never married), she has the freedom to produce and release new music.

Shakira has. On March 22nd, she released "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry)," her first full-length album in seven years. The 17-track album has already broken records for being the most played and streamed in 2024—and it's only March.

"I've been putting out music here and there," Shakira tells Fallon regarding her hiatus. "But, I think it was really hard for me to put together a body of work. I didn't have time; it was the husband factor."

Following her spilt, Shakira felt like a weight has lifted off her shoulders and feels like celebrating her newly found independence.

"Now, I'm husbandless, and was dragging me down. Now, I'm free! Now, I can actually work!"

Shakira blows her performance away with electrifying "Puntería"

Shakira channeled it back to the early 2000s with her Tonight Show performance of "Puntería." The first single off the album, "Puntería," offers high-pace electro-pop elements infused with a high-energy Latin sound—Shakira dressed in shimmering white pants and a revealing top for her look.

The song is a collaboration with felling singer Cardi B, but she wasn't there to side with Shakira on the Tonight Show.

Following her Monday night Tonight Show appearance, Shakira center-staged Times Square in New York on March 26th for a surprise pop-up performance. She sang a medley of songs off her "Las Mujeres" album and a few OG classics. The crowd had an estimated 40,000 attendees, and Billboard sponsored the event to market the new album.
