Taylor Swift continues her MTV VMA reign by winning seven out of the twelve nominated categories. It's no surprise by now that she's one of the most influential women in the music industry and will continue rising. Swift has already accomplished so much this year, so a few more awards might feel like nothing to a global sensation, but to Swift, she's so appreciative and grateful.
Everyone was abuzz whether Swift would attend this year's event honoring the artists and creatives in the music industry, since she just wrapped the European leg of her ERAs Tour and is constantly working on fan-exciting projects during her downtime. But the "Teardrops On My Guitar" singer not only attended the 40th Annual MTV VMAs, she took the event by storm, and deservedly so.
Speaking of her attendance, Swift arrived at the Red Carpet wearing a yellow plaid corseted dress, custom-made by Dior, with black shorts and strappy gloves. She accessorized the fun and punky look with thigh-high boots and Lorraine Schwartz yellow diamond earrings.
What categories did Taylor Swift win at the 2024 MTV VMAs?
Swift won the most Moon Men of the night and made history by breaking the record for the most decorated VMA artist with thirty wins and becoming a three-peat with Video of the Year. It's a fantastic accomplishment in her two-decade-plus career. And we're optimistic that she'll add many more of those silver Moon dudes to her collection.
All the categories Taylor won:
- VIDEO OF THE YEAR (WITH POST MALONE) FOR "FORTNIGHT"
- ARTIST OF THE YEAR
- BEST COLLABORATION (WITH POST MALONE) FOR "FORTNIGHT"
- BEST POP
- SONG OF THE SUMMER
- BEST DIRECTION (WITH POST MALONE)
- BEST EDITING
The other nominations were Song of the Year, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction, VMA's Most Iconic Performance. Sabrina Carpenter took home the award for Song of the Year with "Expresso," making it her first win in VMA history.
During Swift's acceptance speech for Best Collaboration with Post Malone, she reflected on the heroes of 9/11 and not on the show itself. Twenty-three years ago, more than 3,000 people perished in the September 11th attacks. The victims and families must never be forgotten, and Swift greatly emphasized that.
"You are so nice to me. You guys, I wanted to say, waking up this morning in New York on September 11th, I've been thinking about what happened 23 years ago. Everyone who lost a loved one, everyone that we lost, and that's the most important thing about today and everything that happens tonight falls behind that. But it's so amazing to have the opportunity to thank and honor the people who work so hard with me on this video."
