Style icon Kim Kardashian pays homage (and a pretty penny) when she became the owner of Jackie-O’s watch.

When it comes to owning a piece of history, Kim Kardashian is right on time. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star made headlines this week when she purchased Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s Cartier Tank watch at an auction this week according to Forbes. While Kim wasn’t in attendance at the New York City auction, it was revealed that she was the buyer of the famous watch.

The vintage piece of historic jewelry was on the auction block at Christie’s Jewelry on June 21. While the Cartier watch was expected to fetch quite a bit of money, it looks like Kim Kardashian paid quite a premium to own Jackie O’s time piece. Kim paid $379,500 to win the watch.

According to reports, Jackie Kennedy Onassis received the Cartier Tank watch just months before John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.  Prince Stanislaw “Stas” Radziwill gifted the time piece to Jackie O. He was her brother-in-law, having married Jackie’s sister Lee. There is even an inscription on the back to show where the iconic piece of jewelry came from.

There’s no telling if Kim Kardashian plans to wear Jackie Kennedy’s watch or if she bought it to own a piece of fashion history. There’s no argument that both Kim Kardashian and Jackie Kennedy Onassis are both two of the most famous women in American fashion history. It stands to reason that Kim might find some of the style icon’s famous jewelry of interest.

There is also speculation that Kim Kardashian may have bought the watch because the Cartier Tank is considered a classic and is celebrating a 100-year anniversary this year.

Whatever reason Kim Kardashian had for buying Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s classic Cartier Tank, the premium price was nothing compared to the KUWTK star’s fortune. Just this week, Kim launched her new KKW Beauty line. Within an hour of the debut, she sold out of all 300,000 contour kids, earning the reality star and makeup mogul more than $14 million. Maybe the pricey piece of history was a reward for a job well done.
