Here’s why male Covergirl model James Charles is calling out Kim Kardashian and KKW Beauty

Popular YouTube star James Charles is always talking about Kim Kardashian. 

James Charles is a makeup artist and YouTuber who gained even more fame when he was named the first male Covergirl model. One thing that makes James just like a lot of other makeup YouTubers is that he talks a lot about Kim Kardashian.

Usually, James Charles is singing the praises of Kim Kardashian. It makes sense. She has everything that he is hoping to get. She is rich, famous, and everyone knows her for her trendsetting fashion and makeup.

There have been a few times when Charles has managed to eek out criticism of the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star but it doesn’t happen often. Usually, when it does, it’s pretty obviously aimed to make headlines and get a bit of attention.

This time around though, it looks like the male makeup guru wasn’t looking for articles aimed at “slamming” Kim Kardashian and he’s pretty upset about it. He wants to know why Kim Kardashian isn’t showing off her new products on male makeup models. He also pointed out that there are a growing number of men who wear makeup.

It all went down after Kim Kardashian released a casting call for KKW Beauty. The reality star and makeup mogul made it clear that she wanted women to model her makeup for an upcoming project.

On December 12, KKW Beauty posted and pinned a tweet inviting women to try out for an upcoming KKW Beauty campaign. The post calls for any and all women, ages 18 and above. It makes no mention of men in makeup at all.

It really seems as if James Charles is looking to expand his own resume with his response to the casting call (that wasn’t any different from 100s of other casting calls by other beauty companies.) And honestly, if Kim is looking to cast a man to wear her makeup, she should consider James Charles.

“Sister @KimKardashian! There are thousands of boys in cosmetics who love you & I’m sure would be honored to slay a photo shoot for you! This is disappointing,” James tweeted.

It turns out that the popular YouTuber doesn’t feel that his message was intended to do anything but inform Kim Kardashian that she’s missing out on a very small demographic by not hiring male models. He even took aim at People who posted a story about it with a headline claiming that he “slammed” the KUWTK star.

First, he responded to a tweet from People and complained about the headline, saying, “this headline is so beyond incorrect and is borderline defamation. change this and do better please, this is poor journalism.”

Then James Charles took to his own Twitter account to continue the rant. Clearly, he was upset that his KKW Beauty criticism was being seen as a slam on Kim Kardashian.

“I would love to know where exactly I “slammed” her?,” Charles wrote on Twitter before adding. “I love @KimKardashian with all of my heart lmao how about you write about actual news like how you can text RESIST to 50409 to save net neutrality.”

Now I get where James Charles is coming from. He is among a few very popular male beauty influencers on social media. He is also the first male Covergirl model. Note: the first. Very few other large brands hire male models at all.

So it’s not really that shocking when brands like KKW Beauty call for women to model their products. It doesn’t necessarily mean Kim is ignoring that some men wear makeup too. Maybe she’s just counting the millions of women who do and advertising to the largest base. Millions compared to thousands. Maybe she’ll change her mind though and surprise everyone.
