Whitney Houston’s family takes aim at Kanye West over Pusha T album cover

After paying $85,000 for the use of a controversial photo for the cover of Pusha T’s new album, Kanye West has angered Whitney Houston’s relatives.

If Kanye West was looking for more controversy, he certainly got it. Ye may even have cemented himself as the most hated celebrity of 2018 after his latest stunt. As if those comments about slavery being a choice weren’t enough, now Kanye has managed to anger relatives of Whitney Houston to the point where they are making public statements about him.

It started with Pusha T’s new album, which dropped on Friday. Initially, the album Daytona was supposed to have an entirely different cover photo. Pusha even admitted that it was picked out long before the album was complete. That is, until Kanye had an epiphany and decided he was switching it up.

The photo was changed to that of Whitney Houston’s bathroom. The picture in question was taken back in 2006, long before Whitney died. However, the controversial image shows a host of drug paraphernalia, taking aim at the way in which the iconic singer died.

It’s pretty understandable that Whitney’s family doesn’t approve of the new album cover. In act, a few members have already made comments about what has been called a tasteless publicity stunt, a headline grabber.

Damon Elliott, one of Whitney’s cousins and the son of Dionne Warwick talked to PEOPLE about the controversial photo and how it has affected the family.

It turns out that Whitney’s family didn’t know about Kanye’s plans until the album was released. Elliott told PEOPLE that his daughter called him to tell him about the offensive use of Whitney’s photo, which had secretly been snapped by sister-in-law Tina Brown years before Whitney’s death.

“ frantic. She sent me this picture from the album cover and I immediately got sick to my stomach because it took me right back to six years ago,” says Elliot.

“I was actually in shock because I’m in the music business,” Elliott continued. “I’ve watched the train wreck happening, but I didn’t think he’d go this far in invading someone’s family privacy.”

Damon Elliott blasted Kanye West for not speaking to Whitney’s family prior to using the photo. He wants to know why Kanye did it and even took aim at the rapper for being insensitive and controversial for no good reason.

Whitney Houston’s cousin wants Kanye West to remove the photo from Pusha T’s album and replace it with something else. He also wants to know what the reasoning was behind using the shocking photo.

While Kanye hasn’t reached out to him yet, Damon is already planning what he has to say to the rapper. One thing he’ll certainly ask for is an apology.
