Oftentimes, we look back at our teenage years, and what we thought was cool at the time may not be so now. However, Kim Kardashian doesn't have that problem because when she was a teenager in the 1990s, everything looked cool on her. She was that It Girl of the group and everyone knows it.
Perhaps it helped that Kim and her family lived in Southern California at a time when the economy was at its peak and they had access to everything. Or that the decade experienced many fashion and beauty trends that are still in demand today. The point is, Kim had an early head start as a teen in those respective areas and in getting the public's attention. But then again, most teenage girls vie for those elements, no matter what their personal style is.
Speed up more than thirty years later, and some things remained the same for the SKIMS founder. She's still that girl turning heads, no matter what she does. Whether your opinion of her differs, she's still thriving. However, she might still be using an affordable drugstore lip color to stand out, and we might have never known it.
Kim Kardashian was all about Rum Raisin the Revlon lip color in 1993
Once again, Kim shared her 1990s life on Instagram and the ironic thing is that back in those days, that platform, along with other social media sites, didn't exist. We relied on living in the moment and 35 MM cameras to update our lives.
On October 14, Kim uploaded a Carousel of flashback snaps from 1993, celebrating her friend's Bat Mitzvah and hanging out with her friends. She was about thirteen then and was just as stylish as she is today.
In the faded slides, Kim borrowed her mother's black Alaia skater dress, which featured a scoop neck, mini hem, and wide straps. Her dark hair was kept long, and for glam, she went with black eyeliner and a pout of Revlon's Rum Raisin lipstick.
Kim wearing a $10 drugstore beauty brand? Yes, it's true, and she confirms it in her caption!
"The year was 1993. It was Sarah's Bat Mitzvah. I'm wearing my mom's Alaia dress and Revlon Rum Raisin lipstick, thinking [that] we were the coolest!"
Revlon soon saw the post and quickly commented with,
"PROOF that you & Rum Raisin are TIMELESS!"
Meanwhile, Khloé added her own thoughts on the photos, but hers were a bit more gloomy in contrast to the beauty brand's.
"Oh shut up Kimberly. Why aren’t my teenage photos the same?"
She did find the humor because she added a laughing emoji at the end of her comment.
Revlon's Rum Raisin lipstick is still available!
Aside from Khloé's and Revlon's commentary, many asked if the classic lipstick shade is still available. Rum Raisin is a member of the Mauves and Berries family, according to Revlon's website. However, I do think that it could pass for the Browns and Nudes, as the color is a medium brown with warm undertones. But I'm not nitpicking here.
Now, back to the question. Is Rum Raisin still available? Yes, it is. You can still buy the lipstick at Target for $6.89 or if you perfer Walgreens, $11.49. The Chicagoland-based drug and grocery chain also has the product at $12.99, which is at the higher end.
Whatever beauty Kim decides to go with, she looks amazing, with or without.
