Can you believe that the 1995 smash hit, Clueless, will be turning 30 years old? It's considered the Holy Bible of fashion and high school energy of the 1990s, as every aesthetic of the last decade of the 20th century was captured in a humorous light. The shopping mall? Check! The clothes? Check! The tech? Oh, that's definitely a check!
And Clueless wouldn't be Clueless without Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, the late Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd bringing life into their characters—Cher, Dionne, Tai, and Josh—who all have become synonymous in pop culture. The movie has made an impact on so many, including Kim Kardashian, who costumed as Cher in a custom Dolce and Gabbana outfit for Halloween in 2023. She reflected Cher perfectly in her yellow plaid blazer and skirt combo, even going as far as bleaching her hair to get the complete Cher Horowitz effect. Her 12-year-old daughter, North West, was dressed as Cher's BFF, Dionne Davenport, and the duo were photographed as they showed off their fabulous fashions.
In honor of the 30th anniversary of Clueless, major toy company Mattel has rolled out a line of merchandise that has running to the mall, or should we say, the company's retailer selection. Among the line-up is the the fan favorite Barbie, where the dolls have entered their Clueless era.

Mattel launched the new Barbie dolls on July 11 through their website, priced at around $60 on Amazon and Target. The Cher version is in the character's likeness, with her yellow school outfit, platform shoes, thigh-high socks, faux fur purse, and flip cell phone, ready to take on the halls at Beverly Hills High where the drama and peer social statuses thrive.
The Dionne doll is styling in her black and white plaid blazer and skirt, and just like her friend, Cher, she has a cell phone and platform shoes that were the fad of the 1990s. And fashion has a strong tendency to recycle itself, as several of the movie's clothes are making a comeback.
As fabulous as Cher and Dionne are, Mattel should have included Tai as a doll, for she was a prominent part of the Clueless legacy. It was also the launch of Murphy's film career, as she went on to star in several rom-coms and dramas after Clueless, and supplying the voice of Luann Platter in the FOX animated comedy, King of the Hill for its entire 14-season run..

Mattel additionally released a pair of Cher's and Dionne's clothes for its American Girl doll line, which retails at $80. It's a steep price, but there are a lot of legal logistics that go into that, such as licensing fees and anti-infringement. The same applies to the Barbie dolls, but whatever. They're a great way to celebrate the film's legacy and its place as a cult phenomenon.
