Kourtney Kardashian traveled back in time with American Girl
During a recent trip to the Westbury Century Mall, Kourtney Kardashian had a reflection on her childhood. The reality star stopped by the American Girl Doll Store and checked out the "Courtney Moore" doll, whose time era was 1986, a year of monumental events. Interestingly enough, the doll shares the same name as Kourtney, with the exception that the first letter is a "C" and not a "K."
Kourtney shared a snap of the Courtney display on her Instagram Stories and captioned it "Adventures at the mall." The colorful image shows the doll's 80s-style hot pink bunk bed, her name in ombre colors with a pixelated heart. Then, there's a guinea pig cage complete with a tiny guinea pig and care guide. For a restful night's sleep, a Strawberry Shortcake sleeping bag and matching pillow hang on the bed's edge, and matching PJ sets for girls hang nearby.
If Kourtney's goal is to make us Gen X/Y want to head back to the malls and shop in person rather than online, as there's something genuinely connective about seeing and touching merchandise up close, she accomplished it. Unfortunately, however, malls are becoming relics due to the online shopping boom and the overall costs to keep a store up. It's a pastime I hate to see disappear because those who grew up during the mall's high point have fond memories.
Another stop on Kourtney's mall adventure was visiting the Good American Store, whose clothes are designed by none other than her younger sister, Khloé Kardashian. Last year, Khloê opened her first store, a career move she had dreamt of.
Jumping back on the nostalgia train, Kourtney is a fan of curating looks from the '80s and '90s and has worn them on several occasions, including her 44th birthday and every day. It's a great way to upcycle fashion and revisit the past.
Kourtney Kardashian upcycled Kim's 2013 Met Gala dress
In this week's episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney borrowed the infamous couch dress from Kim, who was more than happy to loan it over. The eldest Kardashian sister wore the flowery piece for Halloween and looked totally like her sister's twin.
Later in the episode, Kourtney intends to pass her upcycling routines to her son, Rocky Barker. As a gift, the baby received a vintage Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean tee, which honors his mom's love for all things Disney.
"This is a vintage Pirates of the Caribbean shirt," Kourtney says to her mom Kris as she holds up the tiny shirt.
Already, Rocky is getting the best life lessons.
