Kourtney Kardashian got candid regarding the birth of her son, Rocky Thirteen (XIII) Barker. The new mom documented the journey on the June 20th episode of The Kardashians, filling in with what went down during Rocky's arrival and how it took three days. It wasn't the easiest, but the first vision of her son was well worth it, as any great mother will tell you.
Kourtney Kardashian speaks up why Rocky Barker had emergency fetal surgery
For backup, Kourtney's pregnancy was high-risk, and in the same episode, she elaborated on the reason why she had to undergo emergency fetal surgery. As it turned out, Rocky's still undeveloped lungs contained fluid, a rare incident that numerous reasons could cause. However, Kourtney's medical team cleared whatever caused the infection, and she was grateful and blessed for their dedication.
"A couple of months ago, we had a terrifying scare where I had to have emergency fetal surgery," she says. "Baby Rocky had to have fetal surgery for fluid in his lung. It's super rare that this condition, but it's also super rare and lucky that we caught it. Thank you, God, for a successful surgery. I'm honestly just so grateful. I have no words."
Following Rocky's surgery, Kourtney changed her mindset and began to think positively, not only regarding her health and well-being but also for her son. The mind can be a powerful tool when needed most in critical situations.
"I was definitely filled with fear after the surgery, and the fluid in his lungs actually did start coming back. And then I watched this documentary called Heal was all about the power of positive thinking and how our thinking can really affect our health. I started talking to the babu every day, saying my prayers, and after I had that mindset shift, the fluid was completely gone, and we had not one single problem after."
Kourtney Kardashian reflects on the birth of Rocky Barker
The big moment is here, and Kourtney and her husband, Travis Barker, can't wait to meet their precious miracle. Kourtney is packing for the hospital and taking all the crucial necessities, including a plush Mickey Mouse and his baby clothes. Rocky will look like a tiny rock star when he comes home.
"It's October 29th, and I am going into labor and starting to have some contractions," Kourtney says per her confessional. "We are going to head to the hospital tonight. With everything that we have been through to get to this place, it's crazy that tonight is when we are actually going to the hospital, and I think I'm just filled with excited, anxious energy."
But Rocky wasn't ready to be born on the 29th, so Kourtney and Travis went home. They ate at the vegan restaurant Crossroads, showered, and then, to get things moving along, had sex. The Lemme founder states that it can help sometimes, as it can stimulate dilation.
The couple went back to the hospital the next day, as Travis believed that "today was the day."
"Travis brought his practice drum kit, and how special to be drumming to his son's heartbeat?" Kourtney said when her husband was following the heart monitor inside the hospital room. "The drumming sound is super relaxing and calming to me. I heard it {through} my whole pregnancy. I would fall asleep to it."
Hours into Halloween Day, Kourtney received an epidural, and the nurses kept checking her dilating process. Her water finally breaks, and she's about ready to have her son. At 11:45 PM, the delivery finally begins. Kourtney's mom, Kris Jenner, made an unexpected appearance, and Travis urged Kourtney to "let her come" as his mother couldn't be there since she had passed away.
And the food Kourtney has been craving? Ritz-Bits.
Was Rocky born on Halloween? He just missed it by one minute, being born at midnight on November 1st. The also happened to be All Saints Days, where the Catholic religion honors the Saints.
Kourtney is so in love with Rocky and is in her "happy blissful baby bubble" era. It was all part of God's timing and was meant to be.
"I think that everything that we've been through to get to this moment, it just feels so surreal. "
